SMWD Receives “AA” Credit Rating Affirmation.

Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) has received an “AA” credit rating affirmation from Fitch Ratings for its outstanding General Obligation and Revenue Bonds. Fitch cited the District’s “very strong” financial profile and repayment strength, providing independent confirmation of SMWD’s continued financial stability and responsible fiscal management.

Strong credit ratings help SMWD access lower-cost financing for major infrastructure projects, much like how strong personal credit can lead to better mortgage rates. This helps reduce long-term borrowing costs while supporting reliable water, recycled water, and wastewater services for the community.

The affirmation reflects SMWD’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent financial stewardship on behalf of its customers.

Traffic Advisory: La Paz Road & Veterans Way (Mission Viejo)

Santa Margarita Water District (SMWD) will be completing roadway restoration work this afternoon as part of the final phase of a recent water line repair project near the intersection of La Paz Road and Veterans Way in Mission Viejo.

Beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m., SMWD crews will continue repairs to the roadway surface. Once the excavation area has been filled, a road plate will be reinstalled to safely cover the work area. The work is expected to be completed by approximately 3:30 p.m.

During construction, the westbound left lane approaching the intersection of La Paz Road and Veterans Way will be temporarily closed. SMWD crew members will be on-site providing traffic control, and motorists should expect potential delays in the area.

We appreciate your patience as we complete these final improvements and restore the roadway following the water line repair.
