As part of the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Valley Division, the CHP’s East Sacramento Area patrols the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County east of Watt Avenue, west of the El Dorado County Line, south of the American River, and north of Jackson Road (State Route 16), as well as Sunrise Boulevard and all unincorporated county area east of Sunrise Boulevard north of the American River. T

he East Sacramento Area patrols approximately 22 miles of US-50, provides law enforcement services to over 65 state facilities, and proudly serves the following unincorporated communities within a 175 square mile area:

Butterfield – Riviera East
Fair Oaks
Gold River
La Riviera
Orangevale
Rancho Murieta
Rosemont


In an ongoing effort to provide the people of California with the highest level of safety, service, and security, the East Sacramento Area strives to prevent the loss of life, injuries, and property damage in its area of responsibility through education and enforcement, and offers a variety of services and programs geared toward protecting the motoring public, providing driver and personal safety tips, and ensuring that our highways remain safe. Such programs include teen driver safety seminars, bicycle safety presentations, workplace violence presentations, and child restraint installations and inspections. As a member of the motoring public, you can help us keep our highways safe by planning your travels in advance according to the current environment and weather conditions, driving safely and courteously, and be respectful and patient with your fellow motorists. 🏍️💨 **I didn’t realize I was going so fast**

That’s an interesting defense when you’re traveling at **115 MPH** and the rest of traffic is wondering why a motorcycle just turned into a blur.

This afternoon, an East Sacramento CHP officer driving our Dodge Durango Specially Marked Patrol Vehicle (SMPV) observed a motorcyclist weaving through traffic, passing the SMPV at triple-digit speeds, and making dangerous lane changes that left other drivers with little time to react. The rider was stopped safely and educated on a little-known California phenomenon called a **speed limit**.

The ride ended with a citation instead of a crash report and a coroner’s report which is a much better outcome for everyone involved.

A friendly reminder: Motorcycles are incredibly fun, but physics remains undefeated. At 115 MPH, reaction time shrinks, stopping distance grows, and small mistakes become very big problems.

Please slow down, ride responsibly, and help ensure your next stop is your destination—not the shoulder of the freeway explaining your life choices to a CHP officer.

🚨 Officer K. Sweet has been incredibly busy tonight, and his shift isn’t even halfway over yet!

The evening started with mentoring a ride-along. His first stop involved a Flock camera alert on a felony-wanted gang motorcycle that had previously been used in a crime. The motorcycle was impounded.

His second stop was a on stolen vehicle. The driver, who had recently purchased the car, was stranded in the roadway trying to repair it. Unfortunately, that driver had no idea the vehicle he bought was stolen.

The third stop of the night was a reckless driving (23109 VC) violation, resulting in yet another vehicle impound.

With 6½ hours still remaining on the shift, we’re looking forward to seeing what Officer Sweet and his graveyard partner encounter during the rest of the night. 🚔💙

This holiday weekend, CHP officers statewide focused on one simple goal: saving lives through seat belt safety.

During the Holiday Enforcement Period, CHP officers issued 2,172 seat belt citations to drivers and passengers who chose not to buckle up. While citations are never the goal, every stop was an opportunity to prevent a tragedy.

Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones on the road. No matter how short the trip is, buckle up every time.

Thank you to everyone who made safety a priority this holiday weekend. Let’s continue working together to keep California roads safe.

Officers are on scene of a non-injury traffic crash involving an overturned pickup truck pulling a taco truck (trailer) on westbound US-50, east of East Bidwell Street. Our apologies to the fine folks who were getting fuel or waiting to get fuel at the Folsom Costco when this crash occurred. We had to clear out and close down the fuel pump area as a precaution in case a Hazmat situation occurred as there were multiple propane tanks that fell out of the bed of the truck as it overturned several times. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The Folsom Fire Department has since determined there was no Hazmat spill. Better safe than sorry folks! Reminder that when you’re towing a trailer, the maximum speed limit is reduced to 55mph throughout California.

May is National Bike Month, and we’d like to remind motorists to stay alert, be aware of cyclists, and share the road safely.

We also want to remind cyclists that they are required to follow the rules of the road, including:

* Riding in the same direction as traffic
* Stopping at stop signs and red lights
* Using proper hand signals when turning
* Using appropriate lighting equipment when riding at night
* Always wearing a helmet

Over the past 30 days, we have seen a significant increase in traffic crashes involving each of these electric modes of transportation. Many of these crashes have involved juveniles riding against traffic or otherwise operating unsafely.

Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe for everyone.
