Intermountain Republican Women Federated Enters 2019 with a New Name and Other Changes
The Intermountain Republican Women Federated (IRWF), first formed 67 years ago, will begin
2019 with a new name and an affiliation with a new group called Republican Women of California – San Diego County (RWC-SDC). The local club will now be known as Republican Women of California – Intermountain. The change came after the California Federation of Women decided to “streamline the state” by reorganizing local clubs based on regions. IRWF would have been part of Region 9, which will
include three counties: San Diego, Imperial and Riverside. The decision was also based on “the
advancement of electronic communication,” so that face-to-face meetings could be replaced or supported by videoconferencing, webinars, etc.
“Our board and our members don’t want to go to meetings in other counties,” IRWF President Anita Bales said. “We are local gals who want to get together, have a cup of coffee and fix things. We want to do our part to help conservative Republicans in our area and region be effective and do what needs to be done.” Therefore, the IRWF board and the members who attended the October meeting voted unanimously to secede from all the ‘Federated Organizations.’ And Intermountain is not alone.
There are currently 19 active ‘Federated Clubs’ in San Diego County, and 16 of them, so far,
have voted to secede, Bales said.
“I want to make it very clear that IRWF is seceding, not dissolving,” Bales said. “We are the same people, with the same ideas and patriotism to help keep our Republic. We have chosen to join a newly organized club (RWC-SDC) that will support us and lead us on a new path in 2019.
This is a big undertaking and all of us want to make sure we make the best decisions for our club.”
The new Republican Women of California – Intermountain (RWC-I) is going to use this opportunity to make some other changes, as well.
“Moving forward, we want to streamline our meetings and make them more accessible to women of all ages,” Bales said. “Therefore, we will conduct meetings in the evenings, as well as mornings, to accommodate working women, and will make some of them shorter in time. We will also change meetings to sometimes include only snacks and coffee, not always a full meal, which will reduce the price to attend to a few dollars vs. the full meal of $17 to $20.
“We are currently working to legally establish our new club, and are looking forward to a new beginning in keeping with our history of purpose in supporting our military, informing the public through education and activity, increasing the effectiveness of women for good government, and electing Republicans.”
The new RWC-I will hold its first meeting in February, and will continue to welcome members,
Nspouses and guests from Ramona, Julian, Santa Ysabel and surrounding areas.
