Our guys and tender 2226 made it home safe and sound from our deployment in SW Kansas. We met and worked with a lot of amazing people we’re glad our department allowed us to assist the local departments out there, someday we may need the help back. We gained a lot of experience personally, put our truck and equipment through tests we wouldn’t otherwise see for along time, all while providing an important role of supplying water for fire suppression directly. We did this all while maintaining equipment and personnel at home. It is important to address that some reimbursement will come from the KSFM office we are told to help off set our costs locally. We are in great hopes that we will be able to answer the call again if the need arises in the future.

It’s been an eventful last few days in SW Kansas. It’s a different role than we are use to but enjoy assisting by supplying our 5000 gallons of water to the direct attack resources for the fires. We’ve worked in areas of Clark county the first day and the second day was spent in Meade county helping those folks. Today is a critical day as the conditions will reach red flag levels, extreme winds and low rh levels. Resources will be on the ready for any break outs or new starts. Our guys have been starting operations early afternoon and working until 3-4am. Crews are rested and an assignment awaits for us today soon.

Two personnel have deployed to SW Ks for the on going wildfires. This will be a different role for us this time as our large tender 2226 was requested by the Kansas State Fire Marshals Office. This is our opportunity to assist as some of our equipment/apparatus are on programs with the state. This is all being done will still having a tender/engine available at home .

It is with great pride that we announce the purchase of our new to us pumper/tender fire truck. This truck was purchased through a broker that deals with used in good condition fire trucks. This truck came from Pocatello Fire Department in New York. This truck is a 2003 American La France 1500gpm pumper truck and holds a water load of 2500 gallons classifying it as a dual use truck. There are many options and features on this truck including telescoping scene lights, electronic dump valves, generator, air compressor, 300 gallon foam tank, multiple scba pack seats, top mounted remote controlled deck gun nozzle, powered side rails for suction hose, and ladders, and many more. We hope that this truck will last to serve our community for years to come! Thanks to our fire board, fire fighters,Chief Avantagiato from Herington for assisting us during the search process of finding a pumper, and many others. When this truck is put into service we will have the capability of transporting over 11,000 gallons of water initially with all trucks. MCFD #3 Ramona

MCFD #3 was able to send three members to this academy for two different classes for three days as part of a KSFFA grant. Two firefighters attended the S-212 chainsaw operators class, and another firefighter attended the S-219 firing operations class. Both classes had hands on and in class training components.
