Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary Wild Spirit is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and USDA licensed sanctuary dedicated towards the rescue of non-releasable wolves & other wild canids.

MISSION STATEMENT

RESCUE—To rescue non-releasable, captive-bred, displaced, and unwanted wild canids, especially as a direct result of the exotic pet trade. SANCTUARY—To provide each rescue with permanent, safe sanctuary and lifelong care addressing physical, mental, and emotional health and wellness through species-specific nutrition, medical support, enrichment, and animal companionship, when a

pplicable. EDUCATION—To educate the public about the plight of our rescued wild canids while providing species-specific information, focusing especially on wolfdogs, how to tell the difference between a wolf, a wolfdog, and a domestic dog, and about the ethical care and treatment of domestic and wild animals alike.

Dreams do come true! 🥹❤️

A couple months ago, the Wild Spirit team held one of our favorite activities: Wolf Night.

Wolf Nights are special evening events where we all come back to the sanctuary after the work day is over, and spend time with the rescues during the time of day they’re the most after—just before dark. Crazy as it may seem, there is something truly ✨ m a g i c a l ✨ that happens during these events, where we often see some of our most shy animals take a chance on interacting with a human!

During this particular Wolf Night, Animal Care Intern Marisa was REALLY hoping to have such an experience with Cassian, who is typically really shy with new people during the workday. Alas, despite many efforts, it wasn’t meant to be, as Cassian was just a bit too nervous with all the commotion happening near his enclosure. Marisa, always sure to put the animals first (as is our motto at Wild Spirit) had no hard feelings, and was happy to give Cassian all the time he needed to warm up on his terms.

And as fate would have it, her patience paid off ten-fold! 🥹 Today, she got to see Cassian’s rare streak of bravery that comes with TONS of sloppy kisses! Can you even believe how happy they book look?! 🥳❤️

Today, high-content Arctic wolfdog Cassian enjoyed a walk with one of his favorite Caretakers, Emily, who returned to Wild Spirit after a 6 month hiatus--though with how excited the animals were to see her, you'd guess she never even left! 🥰

Emily originally came to Wild Spirit in September of 2025, where she spent 6 months as an Animal Care Intern. This time around, she's back as an Animal Care Trainee--a role made possible thanks to an international cultural exchange program--for an entire YEAR!

We, as much as the rescues, are so grateful to have her back in the U.S. with us, and can't wait to see her continued personal and professional growth.

Welcome back, Emily. Welcome home. 🐺❤️🌵

Relationships like the one between Cody the Coyote and Animal Care & Behavior Specialist Paola don’t form out of thin air; they are the product of mutual trust, communication, understanding, and respect. They are earned and handled with the reverence they deserve.

Though Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary specializes in wolves and wolfdogs, we are also home to several other species of canines including coyotes and coydogs, most of which were (unlike the rest of our rescues) born in the wild before finding their way into human care for various reasons.

Cody is one such coyote, who was born about 20 minutes from the sanctuary roughly 6 years ago, but by the age of 4, the humans that took her in as a baby had left her in a plastic dog crate outside our front door.

Thankfully, they left her in a place qualified to care for her, and where she is deeply loved—not to mention understood, especially by Paola, who has a very special way with coyotes, having worked with and raised them at previous facilities. 🥹

🐺 Our Wall of Recognition is officially up! 🐺

While we were unable to raise enough funds to save Indigo Mountain Nature Center before the property was sold, we never gave up on the 22 wolfdogs who called it home. ❤️

In March and April of 2025, all 22 IMNC wolfdogs were rescued and brought to Wild Spirit, where they now have a safe, forever home. 🐾

This wall honors the generous donors who contributed $500+ toward their rescue and future. We are forever grateful for everyone who helped give these animals a second chance. 💙
