Earlier this morning, officers responded to the area of 84th Street and Park Drive after receiving reports of a hit-and-run crash. A concerned citizen reported a vehicle struck a road sign and was traveling in the wrong lanes of traffic on 84th Street.

A short time later, the same concerned citizen advised the vehicle was now stopped in a travel lane on Interstate 80. Officers arrived and located a female driver unconscious behind the wheel, with the vehicle still in gear.

After officers were able to wake the driver, an investigation determined she was operating under the influence. The driver provided a breath sample measuring nearly three times the legal limit. She was subsequently arrested and faces multiple charges.

During the incident, officers deployed Stop Sticks in front of the vehicle while it was stationary on the interstate. After being awakened, the female drove forward and over the Stop Sticks.

We want to thank the concerned citizen for notifying law enforcement regarding the dangerous driving behavior of this driver. This incident serves as a reminder of the serious dangers impaired drivers pose to themselves and everyone else on the road. If you plan to consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances, please arrange for a safe ride home. Your decision could save a life!

It's a beautiful sunny Tuesday night, and the Ralston Police Department conducted another spot traffic enforcement special attention on traffic operating on Sunset Dr. and on Lakeview St. In an hour and a half, officers conducted seven traffic stops for a variety of traffic related offenses ranging from Expired Registration to Speeding. Warnings and citations were issued.

Lakeview St. is an area we get a lot of complaints about traffic on, so as a reminder, the speed limit is 25mph unless the School Zone is in effect during school hours.

As always, the Ralston Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of our streets. There are other areas of town on our list to conduct these traffic special attentions, and you'll be seeing and hearing about those in the future. Please drive safely!

As the weekend comes to a close, it's time for another DUI Report! Saturday night proved busy for traffic enforcement. Two more drivers were arrested for DUI as a result.

The first driver was asleep at the wheel in the area of Country Club Rd and Highland St., foot on the brake, car in drive. He came to a rest partially in the front lawn of a resident without destroying or hurting someone. Their BAC was a 0.180!

The second driver was seen between Park Dr. And Ralston Ave on S. 84th St. driving about 20mph below the speed limit and struggling to maintain their lane. They were stopped for expired plates, processed for DUI and the driver had a BAC of 0.250!

These two arrests mark the passing of the 30th and 31st DUI arrests so far this year. Right now, we are averaging a DUI arrest about every 4 days. Each arrest is one less person on the road. Thankfully, most have been caught before an accident occurred. As we've pointed out in the past, an Uber is cheaper than a DUI charge. Make plans to get home BEFORE you go out so you make it home safely.

Ralston PD has also received a few of these scam complaints today. Never click links, scan codes, or send money. This is not how official business is handled in the justice system.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

We’re seeing a new scam circulating involving text messages that include a document claiming to be a “Final Enforcement Notice” from the State of Nebraska/Douglas County Court (example pictured). These messages may include threats of enforcement action, court dates, or payment demands.

⚠️ This is a scam.
Law enforcement and the courts will not send enforcement notices or demand payment through unsolicited text messages or QR codes.

Do not click links, scan codes, or send money.

Rain doesn't stop the enforcement efforts of the Ralston Police Department. Tonight, officers arrested two drivers for DUI. The first was involved in an accident near Miller Ave and Oakwood. They drove away from the accident scene and were located not far away. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt! The driver was charged with DUI +.15, Careless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and No Proof of Insurance. Their BAC was 0.167!

The second driver was driving without headlights in the 8300 Block of Q St. This driver's BAC was 0.153! They were charged with Improper/Defective Vehicle Lighting (Lights Required After Dark) and DUI +.15.

Both of these arrests occurred within minutes of each other. Rain or shine, we are committed to getting these drivers off the road to keep the roads safe. OPPD came out and moved the power lines off of Oakwood and the road is open. You Drink. You Drive. You Lose.
