The NC Emergency Training Center (NCETC) hosted the Fire Rescue Commission's quarterly certification board meeting today.

The visit provided commission members and attendees with an opportunity to tour the facility and experience firsthand the capabilities of our world-class Swiftwater Rescue Training Facility. Throughout the day, NCETC instructors conducted rescue simulations that showcased the unique training environments, equipment, and techniques used to prepare emergency responders for real-world incidents.

We appreciate the Commission's continued support of emergency services training across North Carolina and were honored to highlight the resources and expertise that help make NCETC a premier destination for fire and rescue training.

Hurricane season officially began this week, and across North Carolina, first responders are already preparing for whatever Mother Nature may bring.

A recent Spectrum News story highlighted the incredible Swift Water Rescue Training Facility at the NC Emergency Training Center in Stanly County, where firefighters, rescue personnel, and emergency responders are training in realistic flood and swift-water conditions. The state-of-the-art facility was built with lessons learned from past storms, including Hurricane Helene, to help ensure responders are ready when communities need them most.

But preparedness isn't just for first responders—it's for all of us.

Now is the time to:
✅ Review your emergency plan
✅ Build or restock your disaster supply kit
✅ Know your evacuation routes
✅ Sign up for local emergency alerts
✅ Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don't Drown®

North Carolina has some of the best-trained emergency responders in the nation, with more than 30 swift water rescue teams strategically positioned across the state and ready to respond when disaster strikes.

The best way we can support them is by being prepared ourselves before a storm is on the horizon. Hurricane season runs through November, and a little preparation today can make a big difference tomorrow.

“This facility is like no other,” said Taylor.

The NC Emergency Training Center was honored to host the Ohio Air National Guard this week for Swiftwater Rescue training.

Controlled training environments provide the opportunity to build critical skills, gain experience, and prepare for the unpredictable challenges of real-world emergencies. When disaster strikes, preparation makes all the difference.

Thank you to these dedicated service members. We were honored to support their training and appreciate their dedication to serving their communities and our nation.

Honored to attend the North Carolina Manufactured & Modular Homebuilders Association (NCMHA) 2026 Annual Meeting, where an exciting new partnership was announced to support training and safety across North Carolina’s manufactured housing industry.

NCMHA is partnering with OSFM to provide manufactured homes to the Emergency Training Center. The new training units will be used for hands-on training for manufacturers, industry partners, inspectors, installation contractors, and transporters from across the state.

Expected to be completed by January 2027, the addition will strengthen training opportunities and help enhance safety, code compliance, and professionalism throughout the industry.

Thank you to NCMHA and Executive Director Brad Lovin for their partnership and continued commitment to advancing safety and education in North Carolina!

Students in the Basic Swift-Water Rescue class at the NC Emergency Training Center, taught by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, got a firsthand look at the challenges and realities of operating in fast-moving water.

For many, this was their first experience maneuvering and swimming in swift-water conditions, gaining valuable hands-on training and confidence in a controlled environment. Training like this helps prepare responders for the unpredictable situations they may face in the field and reinforces the importance of teamwork, technique, and safety in water rescue operations.

Great job to all the students and instructors who made this class a success!

Today, State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor had the honor of giving a tour of the NC Emergency Training Center to retired Colonel Dan Beck. Colonel Beck played a key role in shaping what the Stanly County Airport is today, and his legacy of service continues to impact communities across our state.

We’re grateful for his visit—and even more thankful for his many years of dedicated service and contributions to this state and their communities.

This week the North Carolina Emergency Training Center hosted guard members from the 109th Airlift Wing NYANG out of Schenectady, New York.

These Fire/Rescue crews worked on advancing attack lines into an aircraft under live fire conditions, attacking cockpit and cabin fires while coordinating searches and removing victims. Additionally, these crews worked on mastering their ARFF truck skills by controlling engine, brake and fuel fires while navigating through the debris field of a downed aircraft.

We appreciate the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make and look forward to seeing them back next year for both ARFF and Water Rescue training.
