In 2026, if you do not have the receipts for your food purchases, your H-2A employer is required to reimburse you at least $16.78 for every full day of travel from your hometown to the job site in North Carolina.

Your employer is required to issue your travel reimbursement no later than with your first paycheck.

It is a good idea to keep ALL your receipts for travel reimbursement from your hometown to the job site in North Carolina.

If you have questions regarding your travel reimbursement, you may call us! We offer free and confidential consultations.

The Farmworker Unit is so excited to see the news that, Lariza Garzon, our former Farmworker Unit Community Education Coordinator, has been deservedly named a 2026 Defender of Justice. Throughout her career, Lariza has worked tirelessly alongside rural Latinx communities in North Carolina, including North Carolina's migrant and seasonal farmworkers, to fight for fairness, equality, dignity, and justice. We are thrilled to see her honored for this important work.

The NC Justice Center is proud to present Lariza Garzón with the 2026 Lifetime Defender of Justice Award for Grassroots Empowerment!

Throughout her career, Lariza has served as a steady bridge between systemic advocacy and the people it serves, becoming known for her deeply collaborative, people-first approach to leadership and community power-building. As NC Director for the Hispanic Federation, she supports more than 100 Latino-led organizations across the state and has helped launch landmark initiatives, including North Carolina’s first bilingual health line and a mobile immigration clinic for rural legal deserts.

Join us in celebrating Lariza — and 30 years of impact at the NC Justice Center — at this year’s Defenders of Justice Awards Gala on Sunday, September 27. Register today: bit.ly/doj2026

If you are an H-2A worker in North Carolina, your employer has to reimburse you for certain reasonable costs related to your travel to your workplace in your first paycheck.🧾💰✅

This includes the cost of hotel accommodations necessary while waiting for your visa at the consulate in your country of origin. 🏨✈️🧾

Although it is not required, it is a good idea to save your receipts or take pictures of your receipts for each cost that you incur from the place of recruitment until you arrive at your workplace in North Carolina to ensure that your employer correctly reimburses you. 📸🧾
