Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is the state agency with a vision to be the leader in using the state's natural and cultural resources to build the social, cultural, educational, and economic future of North Carolina. Led by Secretary Pamela Brewington Cashwell, DNCR's mission is to improve the quality of life in our state by creating opportunities to experience excellence in t

he arts, history, libraries and nature in North Carolina by stimulating learning, inspiring creativity, preserving the state's history, conserving the state's natural heritage, encouraging recreation and cultural tourism, and promoting economic development. NCDNCR includes 27 historic sites, seven history museums, two art museums, two science museums, three aquariums and Jennette's Pier, 39 state parks and recreation areas, the N.C. Zoo, the nation's first state-supported Symphony Orchestra, the State Library, the State Archives, the N.C. Arts Council, State Preservation Office and the Office of State Archaeology, along with the Division of Land and Water Stewardship.

Calling all NC musicians! Discover what the Come Hear North Carolina Music Office and the North Carolina Arts Council have planned for Make Music Day 2026 on June 21. More info below. 🎶

Calling all NC musicians! The Come Hear NC Music Office and the NC Arts Council are gearing up to celebrate Make Music Day 2026 across the state on June 21st. Make Music Day’s a global celebration of everyday music making, started in France in 1982 – and every year we post North Carolinians playing music together on our social feeds. So on June 21st, film yourself playing (alone or with friends), tag and use the hashtag . We’ll make sure you’re video gets shared as part of the official celebration of Make Music Day!

PS – if you’d like to prerecord a vid and send it to us early, nothing’s stopping you from doing that today...

Happy Birthday to author, educator, civil rights activist, and founder of the Palmer Memorial Institute, Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, born on this day in 1883.

The Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum State Historic Site continues to keep Dr. Brown’s story and legacy alive. Make plans to attend the museum’s 4th Annual Black Heritage Day on Saturday, June 13, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Find event details at:
