We are extremely concerned about the NC Election Board’s vote to make it easier to throw out ballots by whichever party holds the majority with the County Board. I think you can see where this is going.

WRAL writes that “State law requires people to show one of several types of acceptable photo IDs to vote. However there are exemptions people can ask for if they don’t have an ID, such as claiming a religious objection to being photographed, having their wallet stolen or other factors.

The new rules lower the bar for county elections officials to decide that people who ask for an exemption are lying, to remove a previous requirement for bipartisan agreement.

In past elections, voters without ID who asked for an exemption would be granted that exemption, and have their vote counted, unless their county elections board voted unanimously to deny their request. The new rules allow county boards to throw out people’s ballots with a simple majority vote, rather than unanimous agreement.”

At a time when the State Election Board needs to be working to restore our trust and to be seen as non-partisan, they are doing the opposite.

We are proud to endorse our alumni Rep. Bryan Cohn for NC District 32. Sadly Curtis McCrae was forced to drop out of the race due to health issues, but we are incredibly lucky that Rep. Bryan Cohn was able and willing to step up again to serve the great state of North Carolina.

Rep. Cohn’s race is extremely important as it will determine whether the Republicans achieve a super majority again. We must throw all our support behind him. Make no mistake, the race for House District 32 will be one of the most consequential of the year.

We are so proud to support these incredible candidates. It truly takes a special kind of person to stand up to represent the great state of North Carolina. You know how scary it is to ask someone out on a date. Now imagine asking 85,000-200,000 people out! It goes without saying that you are going to be rejected by some of these people. Now that’s really putting yourself out there!

Then think about the incredible amount of time these folks are committing! And keep in mind that they are only making about $14,000 a year. What they are doing is nothing short of heroic.

We support candidates in close but winnable races Weir our money will go the furthest.

All of our candidates have pledged to support fair maps, equal access to the ballot box, funding public education, supporting local governance, and women’s reproductive rights.

We’re not freaking out about H1232, a fetal personhood bill filed in NC which would criminalize abortion seekers and abortion providers, because isn’t freaking out. When she sounds the alarm we’ll skip the pizza party and get to work!

In all seriousness, Now or Never NC is working hard behind the scenes to support candidates who will fight for equality access to the ballot box, fair maps, a robust public education system, the rights of local governments, and reproductive rights for all North Carolinians.
