We work together with the Governor and the Department of Commerce to help businesses launch, grow and locate in our state. Our far-reaching network is made up of government officials, local and regional economic development organizations, service providers, international business, tourism and trade executives, community leaders and educational institutions. We also publish research on key business, trade and industry trends affecting our state, and actively track facilities and sites available for relocation.

North Carolina’s long-standing textile industry is leading the next wave of fiber innovation.

NC State University has been selected to lead FutureTEX, a 10-year Department of War initiative focused on modernizing US textile manufacturing for defense and domestic applications. With a strong workforce of more than 32,000 textile workers and world-class research institutions, North Carolina is uniquely positioned to lead this effort.

With up to $480 million in funding over the next decade, FutureTEX will advance next-generation textile technologies and strengthen the resilience of the US defense industrial base—further positioning North Carolina at the center of the future of textile innovation.

Earlier this week, the EDPNC Board of Directors, partners, and staff gathered in Concord for a productive and engaging series of events that highlighted the innovation, collaboration, and industry leadership driving North Carolina's economy.

The agenda included investor networking, a luncheon at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a behind-the-scenes tour of Hendrick Motorsports, a reception at the Ten Tenths Club, and the board meeting at Great Wolf Lodge.

During the meeting, board members heard a presentation from John Daniels, Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC Charlotte, on exploring opportunities to advance energy innovation and strengthen regional competitiveness.

Another highlight of the meeting was a panel discussion on the connection between motorsports defense, and advanced manufacturing, featuring Steven Lee (JGA Space & Defense) Jim O'Toole (Addman) and Scott Lampe (Hendrick Technical Solutions).

This week, the EDPNC team was hosted by the Lincoln County Economic Development Association as part of our ongoing NC 100 effort to connect state business recruiters with local economic developers across North Carolina's 100 counties.
