Early this month, we had the honored to welcome Valerie Bauerlein Jackson, the author of "The Devil at His Elbow" and National Reporter at The Wall Street Journal, for an engaging presentation on her journalism career and her extensive reporting on South Carolina’s legal and political dynasties.

Valerie shared insights into the rise and fall of the Murdaugh dynasty, the power of long-standing influence, and the importance of accountability when public trust is at stake. She also introduced her investigative podcast, Camp Swamp Road, which examines questions of justice, transparency, and fairness in the legal system.

Her presentation reminded us why Rotary values truth, integrity, ethical leadership, and service to the greater good. As Rotarians, we believe strong communities are built when people ask thoughtful questions, seek understanding, and work together in the spirit of responsibility and service.

Thank you, Valerie, for sharing your experience and perspective with us.

Last Tuesday morning, we were honored to welcome Michelle Drabek, Executive Director of Made 4 Me. Michelle shared how Made 4 Me creates custom adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities, helping families overcome everyday barriers with dignity, creativity, and care. From chairs and desks to mobility supports, each piece is made for the unique needs of the person receiving it.

Her message reminded us why service matters. Sometimes hope looks like a child sitting closer to family, gaining independence, or simply being included.

Thank you, Michelle, for sharing this beautiful work with us.

At our club, service is not only about what we do in the community, it is also about how we care for one another. Jason’s moving presentation, Clara’s story reminded us that friendship, encouragement, and support matter most when life feels uncertain. His family’s journey showed the strength of love, the power of community, and the quiet impact of simply being present for others. 🫶That is Rotary at its best: serving our communities and standing beside one another along the way.
