📣HUGE WIN FOR DEMOCRACY!! The case of League of Women Voters v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a federal judge has ordered the administration to end and disentangle a massive government database that consolidates millions of Americans’ sensitive and legally protected personal information, leaving them vulnerable to baseless investigations and being unlawfully purged from voter rolls.

“Today’s decision is a resounding victory for voters,” said Marcia Johnson, chief of activation and justice for the League of Women Voters. “Efforts to create a federal voter database to facilitate voter purges threaten the fundamental right at the heart of our democracy. The League of Women Voters will continue advocating for an electoral system where every eligible voter can participate with confidence and where elections remain fair, accurate, and accessible.”

Action Alert: Public Comment is open for HB958
North Carolina election laws should encourage voter participation and ensure every eligible vote be counted. Instead, this bill moves in the opposite direction by expanding post-election voter challenges and creating new processes that subject voters to additional scrutiny. This bill creates an environment in which voters are presumed ineligible to vote until proven otherwise. Election laws should begin with the presumption that voters are acting lawfully and should help voters to participate in elections, not create new reasons to question their eligibility after the fact. We encourage you to make comments and contact your state representatives and senators. See https://rebrand.ly/br9alch for more info!
