Foundation Senior Director of Infrastructure Competitiveness Dana Magliola, MBA attended The Next Big Play: Sports, Growth and Opportunity in the Triangle at Lenovo Center last week, joining leaders in sports, development, and college athletics for a discussion on the growth of sports and entertainment districts, name, image, and likeness (NIL) and revenue generation, and Raleigh’s pursuit of Major League Baseball Players Association. Raleigh welcomed national early childhood education leaders this month as Pinnacle member convened its Grow Up Great Advisory Council, bringing experts from across the country to North Carolina to examine childcare challenges and opportunities.

NC Chamber President and CEO Gary Salamido joined and North Carolina Partnership for Children President Amy Cubbage for a conversation on the connection between childcare, workforce participation, and economic competitiveness.

The takeaway: insufficient childcare costs North Carolina an estimated $5.65 billion annually in lost economic activity. Business-led solutions aren’t just good policy, they’re good for the economy.

A new economic impact study released by the NC Home Builders Association makes a compelling case for the value of residential construction. New single-family and townhouse development generates $1.48 in new annual local and state revenue for every $1 in new public service costs, directly countering the narrative that housing growth is a burden on communities. The research also highlights the industry's broader economic impact, estimating that single-family construction in North Carolina supported 225,244 jobs, generated $39.6 billion in total economic activity, and produced $5.1 billion in public revenue for local, state, and federal governments in 2025. The NC Chamber and Foundation have been actively working to advance housing supply as a core economic competitiveness issue for North Carolina, and research like this reinforces why removing barriers to housing development must be a priority for the state’s continued growth.

Dr. Katherine Drake Stowe has been named executive director of the Farmer Innovation Bridge, an initiative of focused on putting North Carolina farmers at the center of agricultural innovation. In this role, Stowe will lead efforts to accelerate the development, testing, and adoption of practical solutions that address real-world needs on North Carolina farms, beginning with the challenges and opportunities farmers identify as most important to their operations. Stowe brings extensive experience in agricultural research, collaboration, and industry partnerships, most recently serving as director of collaboration and partnerships at the United Soybean Board.
