The work done during the Council on Black Health Workshop in March paved the way for the Collective Action Plan we released this week.

THIS is how systemic change happens. It happens when we move together with a shared goal and a clear roadmap.

During our workshop, the impactful moments that influenced the plan weren't just during the sessions or our incredible speakers. They occurred during breakout groups and during quiet conversations between sessions at tables and in the hallways. They also happened when wonderful teams like Drawnversation recorded and synthesized our ideas so we could fully focus on ideating and strategizing. These moments of collaboration are significant.

We are so excited about the Collective Action Plan. So many people came together to work on it, and we know it'll be an impactful tool for reimagining Black health and creating systemic change.

We are thrilled to announce that the Council on Black Health Collective Action Plan is officially here!

Right now is a particularly critical moment in our pursuit of turning the curve on health inequities in Black communities. Conversations are not enough, and silos won’t solve food insecurity, chronic illness, or the maternal mortality crisis. We need action.

The Collective Action Plan is a unified roadmap built with 75 health leaders from across the country. It outlines 13 strategies and 50+ tactics across research, policy, and practice to tackle root causes and hit key targets by 2028.

The 2026 Council on Black Health Workshop was incredible, and we have not stopped moving since.

From three days in Houston came a bold vision and strategy for reimagining Black health across the United States. We are proud to announce that the Council on Black Health Collective Action Plan is almost here.

This plan is the culmination of collective knowledge, expertise, and commitment. It includes three integrated domains, Research, Policy, and Practice, with 14 strategies and 50+ tactics, and a framework for how the Council on Black Health will coordinate, resource, and sustain this work through 2026 to 2028.

Together, we will make optimal health for Black folks across the country a reality.

In the latest episode of the Reimagining Black Health podcast, our host and Executive Director, Dr. Melicia Whitt-Glover, sat down with community pharmacist and entrepreneur, Dr. Ahunna Freeman, and family physician and geriatric specialist, Dr. Anisa Shomo, to get real about what optimal health actually looks like in everyday life beyond numbers on a chart.

This episode is a reminder that health is not just about managing disease. It’s about creating space to live fully, age with dignity, and care for ourselves and each other.

We're so appreciative of Dr. Solomon Abiola and Georgina Dukes-Harris, founder of Swishvo, for an incredible session at the 2026 Council on Black Health last month.

We must commit to using technology as a tool to support, not replace, human connection and trust. A critical element of doing that is ensuring that Black communities are not left out of the emerging technological advances rapidly reshaping our world and our care.

Dr. Abiola wrote a wonderful reflection on The Black Tech Collective about the workshop and the insights gathered from the session on AI, health equity, and the role our communities must play in shaping the technology that defines their care.

At the 2026 Council on Black Health Workshop, Monique Weeks, Director of Outreach Engagement and Transportation at The C. W. Williams Community Health Center, Inc challenged attendees to connect with one another as both individuals and organizations in order to solve our communities’ most pressing health equity challenges and to expand the impact of our work.

The C.W. Williams Community Health Center, based in North Carolina, is reimagining health equity by providing a mobile health unit to their community. Through their medical, maternal, behavioral, and dental services, they are ensuring patients receive comprehensive, connected care.

Last week, our very own Tiffany Eaton, DrPH, MPH attended an incredible exhibit at the NIH-CEAL (National Institute of Health-Community Engagement Alliance) Annual Meeting in Charlotte, NC called, “Deep Roots: Resilience, Sacrifice, and Perseverance”.

This exhibit, curated by Cheryl Emanuel, Dr. Monika Rhue, and their teams, showcased the history of health disparities and health equity policies, community engagement inititiaves, and highlighted the influence of women public health leaders in North Carolina, including our CEO, Dr. Melicia Whitt Glover.

How would our society be transformed if nature were universally accepted as basic foundational knowledge, and access to quality food were considered a human right?

At the 2026 Council on Black Health Workshop, Shun Mack and Amanda Story from in Birmingham, Alabama, shared their food access solution that ensures young people can lead, create, and grow a healthy future for themselves and their community.

We’re so excited about the work they’re doing and the ways that it can be scaled across the nation.

The 2026 Council on Black Health Workshop may be over, but we are just getting started with our collective action plan.
