YMCA of the Triangle Darkness to Light Initiative The YMCA of the Triangle is empowering adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Statistics show that 1 in 10 children is sexually abused before their 18th birthday. The CHCYMCA has paired with national non-profit Darkness to Light to train adults to better protect children. The Stewards of Children training teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Community trainings are held twice a month and are open to the public. With 40 trained f

acilitators in Orange, Chatham, and Durham counties, we are also able to bring the training to parent groups, faith communities, civic organizations, businesses, and other groups at a time that is convenient to you.

CDC offers a resource called Stop SV: A Technical Package to Prevent Sexual Violence. Share amongst your community so that priorities and strategies to prevent s*xual violence will become a priority.

5 main strategies to prevent s*xual violence:

*S* - Promote social norms tht protect against violence.
*T* - Teach skills to prevent s*xual violence.
*O* - Provide opportunies to empower and support girls and
women.
*P* - Create protective environments.
*SV* - Support victims/survivors to lessen harms
