Units on scene of a working House fire on Bascomb Dr.
Fire Update:
The following information is being shared with permission from the homeowner.
According to the occupants, they were using heat to remove cobwebs from the exterior of the home. Approximately 10 minutes later, after returning inside, they began hearing what they described as “someone walking in the attic.” What they were actually hearing was the crackling and popping of a fire that had already begun spreading out of sight. When they realized what was happening, they immediately called 911 and evacuated the home.
While the official cause of the fire remains under investigation, both Northern Wake Fire Department and the homeowners wanted to share this incident as a reminder of how quickly fire can develop from what may seem like a routine task.
As always, early notification is critical. Within approximately 20 minutes of the fire starting, 911 had been notified, units were dispatched, and crews arrived on scene. Within 10 minutes of arrival, firefighters had the fire under control, preventing further damage and helping protect the home.
During firefighting operations, one firefighter sustained a minor injury and was evaluated, treated, and released at the scene by Wake County EMS. We appreciate the care provided by our EMS partners and are happy to report the firefighter is doing well.

Takeaway: If you use heat-producing equipment around your home, always remain in the area for an extended period afterward and continuously monitor for signs of smoke, heat, or fire. When in doubt, call 911 immediately. Early notification saves property and lives.
