NCDP & NC Veterans and Military Families Caucus Issue Joint Statement Honoring Veterans
RALEIGH, NC – This Veterans Day, the North Carolina Democratic Party and the North Carolina Veterans and Military Families Caucus stand together in deep gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our military members, veterans, and their families.
In a joint statement, NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton and NC Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus Chair Dr. Vikki Andrews emphasized the importance of honoring veterans not just with words, but with meaningful action and steadfast support.
NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton Shared:
“On days like today, my heart is just full thinking about all of our veterans—the ones who raised their right hand and said, ‘I’ll go.’ They’re our neighbors, our family, and the real heroes who didn’t just talk about love of country—they lived it. We owe them more than a ‘thank you;’ we owe them action. That means making sure they’ve got the healthcare, the support, a paycheck to provide for their families and the opportunities they deserve when they come home.”
Chair Dr. Vikki Andrews of the NC Veterans and Military Families Caucus Added:
“As a veteran myself, I know firsthand that service doesn’t end when you take off the uniform. Our veterans continue to contribute to our communities every day. But they also face unique challenges—from accessing quality health care to transitioning to civilian life. It’s our duty to ensure they receive the support they earned and deserve. Today, and every day, we stand with those who stood for us.”
The leaders reiterated the party’s commitment to advocating for policies that protect and empower veterans and military families—which includes fulfilling the promise made to service members through strengthening VA health services, expanding mental health resources, supporting veteran-owned small businesses, and ensuring educational benefits are accessible and sufficient.
This Veterans Day, we encourage all North Carolinians to reach out to the veterans in their communities, listen to their stories, and recommit to standing beside them with the same steadfastness they showed for our nation.
