NC Irrigation Contractors' Licensing Board

NC Irrigation Contractors' Licensing Board The Board oversees the licensing of Irrigation Contractors in North Carolina. The new licensure law became effective on June 30, 2009.

The North Carolina Irrigation Contractors’ Licensing Board was established by legislation January 1, 2009. The purpose of licensure is to protect the public health, safety and welfare, and to promote the efficient use of water. According to the licensure law, no person shall engage in the practice of irrigation construction or contracting, use the designation ‘irrigation contractor’, or advertise

using any title or description that implies licensure as an irrigation contractor unless the person is licensed as an irrigation contractor. All irrigation construction or contracting performed by an individual, partnership, association, corporation, firm, or other group shall be under the direct supervision of an individual licensed by the Board.

Your irrigation system has been hibernating for months, and needs attention before it performs its summer marathon. Now could be the moment for the annual inspection. Walk your zones while they run. Look for tilted heads, broken casings, or geysers where steady sprays should be. Notice something is off? Call your contractor before it becomes a bigger problem!

Are your sprinklers watering the sidewalk or street instead of your lawn? Overspray wastes water and money! Check your coverage: if you see mist drifting toward the curb or puddles forming on pavement, call your contractor!

The 2026 Renewal Deadline is Fast Approaching!

The deadline for 2026 license renewals is less than 60 days away! All individual and corporate licenses must be renewed by December 31, 2025, to remain active. Procrastination could lead to significant issues, including revocation, late fees, and reinstatement fees; so plan your renewals accordingly.

Prior to renewal, individual licensees must obtain a total of 10 hours of continuing education (6 irrigation hours and 4 business hours). CE courses are scheduled between now and the end of the licensing year. Search here for upcoming courses:

https://myaccount.nciclb.org/continuing-education/courselisting

When the CE requirement has been met and all hours have been reported, the individual license and associated corporate license will be eligible for renewal!

Reminder: Individual licensees are responsible for reporting their own CE. Courses may be reported online, or proofs of attendance may be sent to administration along with paper renewals. Instructions for online renewal and online CE reporting can be found on the Renewal Page:

https://www.nciclb.org/renewal/

The easiest and fastest way to renew your license is electronically through your NCICLB account. Each license, individual AND corporate, has its own online
