Training the trainers.

This week our team brushed up on their knowledge of grant management, risk assessments, and federal compliance in anticipation of a new cycle of monitoring.

Monitoring is just one way NCPRO provides oversight of $11 billion in federal pandemic funds. We'll partner with grant recipients to create, update, and implement policies and procedures that help ensure funds are spent effectively and appropriately. Let's get to work!

In honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we want to remind you of the hard work happening at the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to improve 911 response times thanks to the implementation of a new Computer Aided Dispatch system with GPS capabilities. NCSHP can now track the location of callers and troopers, improving their safety and yours.

We're proud to have partnered with the NCSHP and the Dept. of Public Safety on this project by providing administrative oversight and other technical assistance.

After serving the NC Pandemic Recovery Office for nearly five years as Executive Director, Stephanie McGarrah will join Governor Josh Stein’s western North Carolina recovery team to help the region rebuild and recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. McGarrah was announced today as the Deputy Secretary for the newly created Department of Commerce Division of Community Revitalization (DCR).

As a native of western North Carolina, McGarrah will have the opportunity to directly impact her hometown area by using her regional knowledge, alongside decades of economic development and public policy experience, to help guide WNC through this unprecedented challenge while fostering long term resilience.

Please join us in congratulating her!

Park and Learn is a partnership between Hometown Strong, North Carolina Business Committee for Education, North Carolina Department of Information Technology, and NC Department of Natural & Cultural Resources.

When COVID-19 forced schools to move online, North Carolina’s digital divide became impossible to ignore. Students without reliable internet at home couldn’t join remote classes or access their homework.

As we approach the Dec. 31 deadline for obligating American Rescue Plan funds, we want to once again recognize the work of our partners at the NC League of Municipalities, NCACC, and the Regional Councils of Government. These organizations are instrumental in helping local governments navigate federal red tape and effectively plan for and spend their ARPA dollars.

What a difference two years makes! Newton was a recipient of the state's Rural Transformation Grant Fund in 2022, administered by the North Carolina Department of Commerce with pandemic recovery funds.
