June is PTSD Awareness Month. We recognize the invisible wounds many firefighters carry long after the call is over.
Behind every helmet is a person who has seen, heard, and experienced things most never will. Some battles don’t end when the sirens go silent.
If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Learn more about behavioral health resources through the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF): https://www.iaff.org/behavioral-health/

🚑❄️ Possible Snow/Ice Event – A Message from DAS ❄️🚑

North Alabama may see snow or icy conditions over the weekend. DAS wants to help you stay safe and help us reach you if you need us.

Please keep these tips in mind:

❄️ Stay off the roads if you can. Most winter-weather EMS calls involve vehicle crashes and falls.

🚗 If you must drive: slow down, increase following distance, and avoid bridges/overpasses first—they ice over quickly.

👟 Watch your step. Icy porches, stairs, and sidewalks lead to slips and broken bones.

🔥 Stay warm safely. Use space heaters properly, keep them away from flammable items, and never use grills or generators indoors.

💊 Plan ahead. Make sure you have needed medications, food, and water before conditions worsen.

🚑 Call 911 for true emergencies only. Hazardous roads can delay response times and your patience helps us help those in critical need.

DAS crews will remain ready and staffed, but winter weather makes our job more dangerous and response times longer. The best way you can help us is by staying home, staying prepared, and staying safe.

Please check on elderly neighbors and those with medical needs. Together, we can get through this safely. 💙
