Think you know what a Fab Lab is? Ours might surprise you! Yes, we have the laser cutters and 3D printers you'd expect, but the OMIC Fab Lab is so much more than a room full of machines. It's a gathering place where the Columbia County community comes to create, learn, and explore.

Just take a look at our recent workshops. In our automata workshop, makers built whimsical mechanical creations with moving parts, learning how gears and motion bring a project to life. And in our sewing workshop, folks got hands-on with our machines to sew "jotes," totes made out of old jeans or pants, giving worn-out denim a second life as something genuinely useful. This is the kind of creative, hands-on learning that happens here all the time.

The Fab Lab shows up for the community in a lot of ways: hosting 4-H workshops for local youth, opening our doors to the public during open Fab Lab hours, and sponsoring a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) or FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team. There's truly something here for every curious mind, no matter your age or experience level.

During the job fair we had the opportunity to walk someone soon moving to Rainier up to the Rainier City Library to get a library card - at her request. We've got a great little-yet-mighty library here. Registering for library cards helps demonstrate community support of this critical city service. Love animals? Want to get some exercise? Volunteer to be a dog walker and help shelter pups have some outdoor fun while they wait for their furrrrr-ever home. 🥰

🐾 WE NEED DOG WALKERS! 🐾

Do you have a couple of hours a week to make a BIG difference in a shelter dog’s life? ❤️🐶

Our dogs don’t just need food, clean kennels, and medical care…they need YOU! They need someone to take them out, stretch their legs, play, sniff, explore, and—most importantly—feel like a dog again. 🥰

We are looking for dog walking volunteers 7 DAYS A WEEK! 🎉

🐕 What does being a dog walker look like?
✨ A commitment of about 2–3 hours, one day a week
✨ Morning and afternoon shifts available
✨ Taking shelter dogs for walks
✨ Spending time with them in our play yards
✨ Giving them attention, enrichment, exercise, and lots of love ❤️
✨ Helping them become happier, healthier, and more adoptable!

You don't have to spend every day at the shelter to make a difference. Just a few hours, one day a week, can mean the world to a dog who may be waiting for their forever family. 🐾

And let's be honest…you get to spend a few hours hanging out with dogs. We call that a pretty great volunteer job! 😉🐶
