TOWN OF RAINELLE ...CITY HALL 304/438/7191
Upon entering the small town of Rainelle, those traveling along the Midland Trail will be able to taken a step back in time to the days when the Meadow River Lumber Company was in operation. Even though the building that once housed the largest hardwood sawmill in the world has been torn down, the rows of company mill houses still remain as a reminder of days gone by.While each house has now been individualized to meet the needs of the current homeowners, their placement in the quaint community of Rainelle has not changed. It is not hard to look at the houses and imagine a time when employees, after a long day of work, would come home to their identical houses to be with their families and watch their children grow. RAINELLE WAS A BOOM TOWN FOR MORE THAN A HALF CENTURY, FROM ITS ESTABLISHMENT IN 1906 BY JOHN AND TOM RAINES AS THE MEADOW RIVER LUMBER COMPANY COMPANY TOWN. STUNNED BY CLOSING OF THE LUMBER COMPANY AND REROUTING OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 64 TO BYPASS IT, RAINELLE IS EXPERIENCING A RESTORATION. COUNTRY INN AND MOM & POP RESTAURANTS OFFER MIDLAND TRAIL TRAVELERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE GENUINE SMALL TOWN COMMUNITY LIFE THAT CELEBRATES ITS PROSPEROUS PAST AND ANTICIPATES ITS BRIGHTER FUTURE
