Today, on National Women’s Law Enforcement Day, we’re shining a spotlight on three incredible women who make a difference in our community every single day, SRO Alissa Russell, SRO Amber Brown, and Officer Katie Harris.

From building relationships with students to answering the call when their community needs them, these women lead with strength and serve with heart. We are grateful for the example they set and the impact they make each day.

This morning, SRO Blake Habyan joined the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb hosted by Jacksonville State University Army ROTC and University Police at AmFirst Stadium.

The stair climb honors the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and countless others who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Participants climb in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the attacks.

We are honored to have SRO Habyan represent the Rainbow City Police Department in remembering and honoring the heroes of 9/11.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001 , a day that changed our nation forever.

We remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost, the families who were forever changed, and the countless first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.

We honor the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness of the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, military members, and ordinary Americans who answered the call that day.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Yes, grass clippings are green. No, that does not mean they belong in the recycling bin. In fact, putting grass clippings in the cardboard/plastic recycling trailers is against the law.

So please keep the grass where it belongs. In your yard or a proper disposal.

Keep your clippings. Dispose of them properly. Let’s keep the recycling bin for, ya know… recycling.

For five years, Officer Prater has been serving our department and our school. Although we may joke around with him constantly, we appreciate his dedication, hard work, and commitment to our students, staff, and community.

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Carol Sherwood, 86-year-old female, who is missing from the Ford Valley Road area of Gadsden.

Carol may be experiencing dementia and may be in need of assistance.

Description:

* 86-year-old female
* 5’4”
* Approximately 140 lbs.
* Gray hair
* Last seen wearing a gray shirt and blue sweatpants
* She may have possibly gotten into a blue vehicle

If you have seen Carol Sherwood or have any information regarding her whereabouts, please contact the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office immediately.

Road Work Update ⚠

Covered Bridge Road is scheduled to be paved tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9.

Please use caution in the area, watch for paving crews, and allow extra time for travel. We appreciate your patience as we continue improving Rainbow City's roads.

A long weekend looks pretty good on Rainbow City.

Maybe it's a morning on Rainbow Drive, an afternoon at the Recreation Center, a walk through the park, or a quiet evening by the water. However you spend today, Labor Day is a chance to slow down and enjoy a little of what all that hard work helps make possible.

Here's to the people who work hard, the families who make Rainbow City home, and a community worth taking a day off to enjoy.
