COMMUNITY! Our neighbors need your help. Due to hurricane beryl, many in Texas are without electricity and essentials. We know that they stepped up for us during Laura so we will be returning the favor.

“Roots in the Atchafalaya”
Atchafalaya Basin, Louisiana

A cypress tree’s expansive roots are seen in the shallow waters of the swamp on a foggy October morning.

For this image I chose to use a wide angle lens to emphasize the root structure of this cypress tree. In order to see the roots below the surface of the water, I attached a filter to my lens called a circular polarizer. This filter removes glare on the water, allowing you to see several inches down. If you’ve used polarized sunglasses, it creates the same result. I liked the use of black and white on this image to remove the distraction of color from the scene and focus the viewer’s attention on the roots. I hope you like it!
