Four of our members are currently pursuing their firefighter certification, and tonight they put their skills to work during firefighter rescue training.

Through our partnership with Sandhills Community College, our members have the opportunity to not only work toward their certification, but to do so with experienced instructors and access to a quality training facility right here in Hoke County.

Investing in our members means investing in the future of our department and the community we serve. We are proud to help provide opportunities for our firefighters to learn, grow, and become better prepared to answer the call when their community needs them most.

Tonight, our firefighters headed to the Chad Autry Burn Building to focus on hose deployment and advancement.

Being able to quickly deploy, establish, and advance hose lines into a structure is a critical skill on the fireground. The faster we can get water where it needs to go, the better opportunity we have to protect lives and save property.

Staying proficient in these fundamental skills is something we take pride in. Training like this helps ensure that when the call comes, our firefighters are ready to perform.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of former member James “Humpty” Rodney Lee.

Humpty was truly one of a kind and dedicated many years to serving the citizens of Hoke County. His presence, service, and friendship will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Services will be held Saturday, August 22, at 1:00 PM at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave., Raeford.

Rest in peace, brother. We’ll take it from here.

Did you know that every year we test every foot of our fire hose?

This annual testing process helps ensure that our hose is ready when we need it most. Each section is pressurized to the required standard and monitored for a set period of time while our firefighters inspect for leaks, damage, or other issues.

It may seem like a simple piece of equipment, but our hose is our lifeline when we are fighting fire. Making sure it is ready to perform when called upon is crucial to our operations and, ultimately, to the safety of our firefighters and the communities we serve.

This afternoon, our on-duty firefighters partnered with Puppy Creek Fire Department for some impromptu aerial operations training.

This morning, our firefighters, along with members of other departments from Hoke County Fire & Rescue Association, were at Walmart collecting school supplies to donate to Hoke County Schools.

A huge thank you to everyone in our community who stopped by and donated. Your generosity will help local students start the school year prepared and ready to learn!

Special thanks to Aberdeen Fire & Rescue Departmentfor bringing their “Hot Car” demonstration setup. As you can see, in just about an hour, the temperature inside the vehicle increased to a dangerous level. This is an important reminder that children and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle, even for a short period of time.

Last night, our firefighters had an outstanding training opportunity thanks to the support of one of our local property management partners.

The opportunity to train in an apartment building allowed our crews to practice critical skills and tactics in a realistic environment, helping us better prepare for the challenges of a multi-family residential fire. Training in the buildings we protect is invaluable and strengthens our ability to serve our community safely and effectively.

A sincere thank you to our community partner for making this training possible and for supporting the mission of the Hillcrest Fire Department. Partnerships like these make a real difference in keeping both our firefighters and our residents safe.
