Raeford, NC – Hoke County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center, Inc., and the Hoke County Sherriff’s Office welcomes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. So far this year, there have been 213 domestic assaults, 264 domestic violence protection order services, and 9 crimes of stalking for Hoke County as per the Hoke County Emergency Management Office.

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you are a victim of domestic violence please contact your local law Enforcement Agency or Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center immediately to ensure your safety. As an Elected Sherriff my staff and I focus on awareness, prevention, and the reduction of domestic violence. Love is not supposed to hurt. Make the call now!!”, Sherriff Hubert Peterkin.
The mission of the Hoke County Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center, Inc., is to provide quality services regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status to reduce crime of domestic violence and sexual assault in the communities of Hoke County. It is the mission to empower, increase safety, develop community awareness, and educate victims and community members on domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Hoke County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center, Inc., provides prevention and intervention services to the community and victim/survivor(s) of domestic violence and sexual assault. Services provided include a 24/7 crisis line, transportation services, community awareness/education, crisis services, temporary housing services, legal/court advocacy, medical/hospital advocacy, individual counseling, and support groups. Expanded services include job counseling, job training/placement, financial services, health education, and education services.

On October 19th, Hoke County Sherriff’s Office deputies along with the Hoke County Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center, Inc., will wear purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Day, also known as Purple Thursday. It has been observed on Thursday of the third full week of October since 2010. Other community partners are being challenged to wear purple also and share their participation through social media.
