Yesterday, a comment was posted in response to the City’s Transit Equity Day message that reflected racist and hateful views.

While the City cannot remove comments simply because they are offensive, I want to be clear that this type of language and behavior is unequivocally condemned.

Transit Equity Day commemorates the courage of Rosa Parks, whose refusal to accept segregation helped change this country. Her legacy reminds us why equity in public transportation, and in public life, matters.

That legacy should be honored, not undermined.

I am incredibly inspired by the generosity of the Walden III students and their families, who raised nearly $10,000 and donated more than 700 boxes of nonperishable food items to the Racine County Food Bank in this year's food drive. Thank you for showing what our community can accomplish together.

Today, I joined members of the Racine Interfaith Coalition (RIC) and our community for a Prayer Vigil in honor of National Immigrant Day.

As I shared at the event, Racine’s story is an immigrant story. Generations of families—mine included—came here seeking safety, opportunity, and belonging. The diversity, ingenuity, and hard work of immigrants built Racine into the community we know today.

In a time when the national conversation around immigration can feel divisive, I want to reaffirm something simple but powerful: Immigrants are welcome in Racine. Immigrants are needed in Racine. And immigrants should feel loved in Racine.

Our city’s strength has always come from the people who choose to make it home.

Twelve years ago today, Wisconsin declared Kringle the official state pastry — a recognition that started with legislation I was proud to introduce as a State Representative.

For Racine, Kringle is more than a pastry. It reflects the city’s Danish roots, local tradition, and a craft perfected over generations.

I am so glad to see it still getting the statewide respect it deserves.

Last night, our community experienced two separate acts of gun violence. One individual was injured, and another lost their life. My heart goes out to the victims, their loved ones, and everyone in Racine who is feeling the weight of this news today.

As Mayor, I remain committed to doing the hard, necessary work to address the root causes of violence. That work will take all of us—government, law enforcement, faith leaders, grassroots organizers, and residents—working together to build a safer Racine.

To the families impacted by these events, please know that you have our full support and our deepest condolences. Your grief is shared by an entire city that wants something better.

I want to add my voice to those expressing condolences for the loss of 11-year-old Jesus Valladares, who died from gunshot wounds on Friday.

Any loss of life to gun violence is unacceptable. But losing a child is devastating.

Please keep Jesus’s loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot by his sibling late Friday night in Racine, police said. The victim's sibling was taken into custody.

Storm Update for Racine Neighborhoods: This evening's storms appear to have hit hardest along the areas closest to the lake. Many tree limbs are down and debris is scattered, but crews have already been mobilized.

🌳 The City's Forestry Division is out clearing debris from roadways, and will continue through the night.
🚓 The Racine Police Department is directing traffic around hazards
⚡ WE Energies is working to restore power in affected areas

City crews will work through the night to make roads passable. Full cleanup of fallen limbs and debris will begin tomorrow. Thank you for your patience, and please drive carefully if you’re out tonight.

Mayor Cory Mason is in Milwaukee this week for the 2025 Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Cities Initiative/Alliance Grands Lacs St-Laurent Annual Conference, joining fellow Wisconsin mayors to focus on the future of fresh water in our region. 💧🌊

The conference brings together local leaders from across the U.S. and Canada to tackle shared challenges such as water conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.

It's wonderful to see Mayor Mason and other leaders continue to advocate for bold, collaborative action to protect our water and strengthen communities that depend on it.

Last night, I had the privilege of joining Racine Unified Schools for the 2025 Encore! Awards in Education celebration at historic Memorial Hall. The event recognized some of our community's most dedicated educators and staff, who consistently go above and beyond to support student success and academic excellence.

On behalf of the City of Racine, I was honored to present a special proclamation in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week to all those in attendance.

To our Encore! Award winners: thank you for your passion, perseverance, and impact in and out of the classroom. You represent the best of our school district, and the City is proud to celebrate you.
