The City of Racine is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the Police & Fire Commission.

This volunteer commission plays an important role in ensuring fairness, accountability, and professionalism within the Racine Police and Fire Departments. Commissioners oversee recruitment, examinations, and appointments for Police and Fire personnel — up to and including the Chiefs — administer the citizen complaint process, and serve as the final arbiter on appealed disciplinary matters.

The Commission does not manage day-to-day department operations or establish Police or Fire Department policies.

Meetings are held quarterly, and commissioners serve a 5-year term. No law enforcement background is required; the Commission welcomes diverse community perspectives from legal, social services, business, education, and faith communities. If you're a fair-minded Racine resident looking for a meaningful way to serve your community, consider applying today.

Application deadline: July 10, 2026
