Good evening, anglers!
As we head into the fall, we start the process of planning for the next Salmon-A-Rama. Below is a message from Jim Lafortune, the event Chairman, that I'd like to share with you all.
Our next Salmon-A-Rama committee meeting is this coming Monday, October 5th (7pm) at the 5th St Yacht Club in Racine. It would be wonderful to see more of you at the meeting!
Hello,
We are reaching out to our General Membership and those who showed an interest when joining the club with interest in helping with the Salmon-A-Rama event. The committee needs volunteers for the planning and running of the 2027 event held July 9th through 18th, 2027. Our committee meets the first Monday of every month to plan this large task, with its success primarily funding the numerous community outreach programs of Salmon Unlimited – Wisconsin, Inc. We hope to bring some new interest in these endeavors as the committee is currently very small and strives to ensure that all the needs are met.
We currently are seeking Grant writers:
Role: Research funding sources, write persuasive proposals, and manage the entire application and reporting lifecycle to secure financial support for the organization.
Food Vendors for event duration:
Role: Seek food trucks for the entirety of the event, prevent vendors from conflicts with same foods, advertise these vendors within the City, guide on permits and licensure, complete committee approved contracts with vendors.
Cheese Curd lead:
Role: Solicit additional help to help prep, cook, and serve products, train members on proper technique while cooking, ensure health and safety guidelines are followed, and schedule crews for each day. This will include fryer set up, cleaning, and total set up and tear down.
Fish I.D. and weigh in (Racine)
Role is to identify fish species and weigh each fish brought to scale. Deep experience of fish ID is REQUIRED (though we openly welcome those more novice to volunteer and shadow a more experienced volunteer to help teach species ID). We also need additional volunteers to help input the ID/weight data. If new to these roles, a quick training session will be provided for working the designated shift and support for questions during weigh-in will be on-site (Jim, Michelle, Josh, etc).
Advertising & promotion
Role: Create banners, signage, Facebook, and other ideas to promote the event not only in Racine but throughout the tournament’s market (WI, IL, MI).
Sponsorship:
Role: Helping solicit sponsors to offset the event with fiscal support (cash sponsorships), or product support (product donations for our raffles & divisional prizes). This is how we keep the Salmon-A-Rama festival affordable for the community (helping offset the cost for music, site rental, fireworks, and other operating expenses).
If you would like to take on other ideas we are open to expanding such as car shows, bike shows, or other events to draw the community down to site. More committed to the event allows us to expand what we provide to the community!
If you can support us before the event please attend a meeting, and if you're able to help at the event that also will help us achieve a successful year. If everyone gives a little, we can alleviate the stress on a few.
Thank You,
Jim (SAR Chairman)
