A message from Southampton Town Trustees:

AVIAN FLU-
The snow and ice this winter has created limited open water and grazing areas for our wild birds creating a perfect environment for the spread of the ‘Bird Flu. If you see any dead or sick birds please keep your distance and keep pets away from them. It spreads primarily among birds but can potentially infect humans or pets.

Earlier today, our officers responded to an unusual call — a seal making its way down Dune Road!

With the help of a local Environmental Conservation Officer, the seal was able to safely make it back where it belongs — the ocean.

Thankfully, no injuries to the seal, motorists, or our officers were reported.

We’d like to remind everyone that while marine wildlife sightings can be exciting, it’s important to:

-Keep a safe distance
-Avoid feeding or touching the animal
-Contact local authorities so trained professionals can respond.

Great teamwork and a happy ending for our unexpected guest!

In September of 2025 three of our officers proved once again that teamwork and training save lives.
When officers responded to a medical emergency, they found an individual unresponsive and not breathing. Without hesitation, our officers immediately began CPR, rotating compressions to ensure continuous, high-quality care while awaiting EMS. After a short time, members from Westhampton Ambulance responded and continued care.
Thanks to their quick actions, calm under pressure, and seamless teamwork, this individual is here today.

We are incredibly proud of these officers and Westhampton Ambulance responders for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to protecting and serving our community — in every sense of the words.
This incident is also a powerful reminder of the importance of CPR training. You never know when you might be called upon to save a life.
Please join us in recognizing these officers and ambulance responders for their outstanding work.
It is an honor for our officers and ambulance members to be reunited with a survivor.
