As the boating season approaches we would like to remind you of a few key safety laws and requirements:
Boating Safety Certificate (Brianna’s Law): Mandatory for all motorized boat operators as of 2025, regardless of age.
Life Jackets (PFDs): Children under 12 must wear a securely fastened, properly sized Type I, II, or III life jacket and the life jacket must be U.S. Coast Guard-approved. Each passenger aboard a vessel must have a readily available US Coast Guard approved life jacket that properly fit’s.
Cold Weather Wear: Anyone on a boat less than 21 feet long must wear a life jacket between November 1 and May 1.
Alcohol and Drugs: Boating Under the Influence (BWI) is illegal with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.08% or higher.
Personal Watercraft (PWC) Rules: Operators must be at least 14 years old, and all operators/passengers must wear a PFD. PWC operation is restricted to daylight hours (sunrise to sunset).
