Wood County, TX Sheriff's Office

09/02/2026

On 9/2/2026 at approximately 2:30pm Wood County Deputies observed a vehicle parked in the roadway near the area of CR 3859 & 3860. Deputies made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, at some point during the interaction the driver produced a firearm. The driver of the vehicle was struck by rounds fired from Deputies. The driver was transported to an area hospital. No other information is available at this time & names of the parties involved are being withheld until further notice. The Texas Rangers are handling this investigation. The Deputies involved in this incident were not injured.

Edit: All houses on County Road 2680 and County Road 2686 are on notice at this time.

PSA: There is currently a large brush fire in the area of Highway 80 and FM 778. There are currently multiple responding agencies and the roadways are being closed down. People are advised to stay away from the area at this time and deputies are working to evacuate residences in the area. Updates will be provided as they are received

Wood County is now under a burn ban effective August 18, 2026. We will post an update as we get further clarification on what is allowed.

It has been brought to our attention that a scam is going around again claiming that you have an active warrant for you arrest and you need to pay the Sheriff’s Office to dismiss it. The Sheriff’s Office will not contact you and request money! Please hang up the phone and call the correct phone number at 903-763-2201 to confirm whether you have an active warrant or not.

It has been brought to our attention that people are using the asphalt scam in the area again.

It is that time of year again when asphalt scams start occurring. These scammers will often show up to your residence claiming to have left over asphalt from a previous job and will sell it to you at a discounted price. As tempting as this sounds, it is often a scam and it is recommended to not provide them with any money before the service is completed.
