We appreciate Mississippi Power making the effort to ensure no residential customers lost service during this project last night. And for strengthening the reliability of our electrical infrastructure in Quitman.

***UPDATE 12/03/2025 940A***

We have had an update from Mississippi Power. Due to efforts from Mississippi Power to limit the impact of this planned outage, no residential customers will be affected by the outage tonight. The only customers affected will be Dart and the pellet mill. Barring anything unusual, Mississippi Power Engineers are fully confident that no residences will lose power. The system will handle the load. I want to thank Mississippi Power for their open communication and for their efforts in ensuring the affects of this outage would be minimal and not affect any residents.

Mississippi Power has notified The City of Quitman of a planned maintance outage for the Quitman sub station from 1000P Wednesday night Dec 3rd to 600A Thursday morning Dec 4th. Those affected by this outage will be Dart, the pellet mill, and a few homes on Hickory Street. If your home IS IN THE AFFECTED AREA you should have received a automated call yesterday or today notifying you of the planned outage. If you did not receive the call, you are not in the planned outage area. There is a small possibility that due to high loads the whole town could loose power during the outage. This is not expected but possible. I understand this will be an inconvenience but it is beyond the city's control.

Thank you
Mayor Chris Reeves

Sometimes you have to make a little mess to get cleaned up! Over the next week our Street Dept employees will be out trimming back over grown tree limbs from our neighborhood streets. Be alert for them and the piles of limbs. The piles should be picked up quickly as the limb truck will be following behind. If you see these guys out working to keep our town clean give them a wave and a thank you. They are working hard to make Quitman a beautiful city that we can be proud of!

If you know of any specific areas in town that need trees trimmed back or where trees are over grown on city property. Please send us a message here or call City Hall.

Our water department is working to repair another water main leak on East Franklin near Mary Carter Park. Water pressure will be low until repairs are completed. A BOIL WATER NOTICE remains in effect.

This is the 8th water leak our water department has repaired since Sunday's pump outage and probably the 15th since the tank repainting project began. These leaks are attributed to pressure changes in the system combined with aging pipes.

As always, our guys work until the problem is fixed no matter the weather or time of day and I appreciate their dedication.

Mayor Chris Reeves

*****UPDATE 536pm*****

We are starting up the back-up well/pump. We should have water restored in the next 30 minutes. The City of Quitman will remain under a BOIL WATER advisory until further notice.

*************************

Unfortunately, we have lost pressure again. We are working to get it back up and resolve the cause. Will provide an update as soon as one is available.

11/09/2025

A blown fuse was the culprit. The pump is back in operation! It might take a little time for the system to refill. We will likely have a lot of discolored water due to the pressure changes in the lines loosening mineral build-up. Effective immediately the City of Quitman is under a boil water notice. This will last a few days. We have to send water samples to Jackson to be tested before we can lift the restriction.

11/09/2025

Our well pump has went down and we have lost water pressure city wide. We are working to determine the cause and make repairs ASAP. Once we determine the cause and estimated repair time we will post an update.
