In every canyon, prairie, and night sky, wild mothers prove that strength comes in many forms.

From fierce Great Horned Owl moms defending their nests to devoted American Bison mothers leading their calves across the plains, the natural world is full of powerful women shaping the future.

Moms are protective and powerful! Don’t forget it.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in this universe!

IN CASE YOU FORGOT…

We live in a place where bison roam the canyon lands; animals so powerful they once shaped the prairie with every step they took.

Where prairie dogs build entire underground towns and use different calls to warn each other of danger.

Where bats fill the sky at dusk, eating thousands of insects in a single night.

Where badgers can dig faster than most animals can run, disappearing into the earth in minutes.

Where butterflies drift across the canyon on long migrations, some traveling farther than you’d ever expect from something so small.

Where red rock canyons hold millions of years of history, carved by wind and water long before us.

Where the smell of rain comes before the storm… and the night sky still shines bright enough to stop you in your tracks.

A place where the wild is still real,
and still right in front of you.

“If children don’t grow up, knowing about nature and appreciating it…
They won’t understand it. And if they don’t understand it, they won’t protect it.
And if they won’t protect it… who will?”

Wind and lack of rain.
Lack of rain and wind.
I know it really can be a downer to not have a campfire when in the park.
BUT, it is really important to the safety of the resources in the park.

No ground fires permitted.

You may cook with charcoal and containerized fuel stoves.

Don’t be mad at me!

Just watch.

"Deep within the rugged cliffs of Caprock Canyons State Park, a team of archeologists uncover ancient bison bones at a rare prehistoric hunting site. Known as a bison jump, the site reveals how Indigenous peoples once used the land’s natural features to survive. As the team excavates, they connect with Texas’ distant past, preserving history before it erodes away."

These film photographs capture the timeless spirit of , their worn textures and faded tones echoing the rugged beauty of the land itself.
Like the canyon walls, they carry the marks of time, perfectly preserving the raw, enduring essence of Caprock.

A sweet reminder from another park! 🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇

Keep our park clean for all our creatures!

But if you wanna hand out chocolate…
The visitor center is right in the main parking lot. Just saying.

🐣🌼 Happy Easter Weekend from Meridian State Park! 🌼🐣

We’re excited to see everyone enjoying the park this holiday weekend. Before you head out, here are a few quick reminders to help us keep Meridian beautiful for wildlife and visitors alike:

🥚 No confetti eggs (cascarones)
The small pieces of paper and plastic left behind can be mistaken for food by wildlife and are difficult to clean up. Help us protect the park by leaving confetti at home.

🌿 Leave No Trace
Pack out what you pack in and help us keep the trails, picnic areas, and shoreline clean for everyone.

We hope you have a fun, safe, and egg-cellent Easter weekend enjoying the outdoors with family and friends! 💚🐰
