Quincy firefighters were dispatched to 490 S. Fremont Road in Algansee Township at around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon for house fire. Coldwater and Lakeland firefighters were also assigned to the fire through the auto-aid agreement. Lakeland firefighters were nearby, working another incident and were able to break free and be on the scene within a few minutes of the inital alarm and found heavy fire on the first floor of the two story house. Quincy, Lakeland and Coldwater firefighters brought the fire under control in about an hour. Fire had extended into the walls and attic space throughout the home making for a lengthy overhaul process. The home was currently under renovation and unoccupied at the time of the fire. The fire is believed to have started from discarded staining materials. Firefighters were on scene for nearly two and a half hours. No injuries were reported.

Quincy and Coldwater firefighters were dispatched to 790 Jonesville Road for a building fire at 11:47 Friday morning. First arriving units found heavy smoke coming from a large barn and declared a working fire. Tekonsha and Lakeland fire departments then responded with tankers to provide water supply. Crews made entry into the building to find fire in the walls and attic space. Interior and exterior steel siding covering an old wood frame barn made for extensive work to control and extinguish the fire. A large addition and its contents were able to be saved from the fire but did suffer smoke and water damage. A nearby home was undamaged. The fire is believed to have started from a wood stove pipe going through a wall. No injuries were reported. Crews were on scene for nearly four hours.

🚒🌟 Quincy Firefighters Visit Union Church Vacation Bible School: Kids Raise $925 for the Department! 🌟🚒

We have an incredible story of community support to share from Quincy today! Recently, our Quincy firefighters had the honor of visiting the Vacation Bible School at Union Church, where they were warmly received by enthusiastic children eager to see the firefighters and play in the water!

During their visit, the firefighters were deeply moved by the generosity and initiative shown by the kids. Inspired by the firefighters' mission to keeping our community safe, the children decided to take action. With their enthusiasm and determination, they raised an impressive $925 in funds for the Quincy Fire Department!

This donation will make a significant impact, helping the department acquire essential equipment, fund training programs, and support community outreach efforts that benefit all Quincy residents.

The Quincy Fire Department extends its heartfelt thanks to the Union Church and all the children who participated in this wonderful initiative. Your kindness and support demonstrate the strong bond between our firefighters and the community they serve. The Quincy Fire Department and Union Church look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership, fostering a community where kindness and support thrive. Together, we make our community stronger!

We have regained access to our account after resolving some technical difficulties and will be back to posting things of interest for the community.

For tonights training, firefighters took advantage of the pleasant weather and had school at our training center where we ran hose stretching, laddering and search drills.

Did you know Quincy firefighters train for four hours every Wednesday night? That's 204 hours of scheduled training per year! Several firefighters go beyond that to keep up on their EMS licenses or other technical trainings offered outside of Quincy.

We had a very special visitor at the firehouse this evening! Melody Cole, the toughest lady in Quincy, came in to say hello. Melody was rescued from an apartment fire on the evening of September 7th, 2022, in the Village of Quincy. She was not breathing when firefighters removed her from her apartment but they were able to get a pulse back and Melody started to breath on her own after a couple rounds of CPR. She spent several weeks in the ICU recovering from significant smoke inhalation and then fought her way through rehabilitation. She is still in the process of healing today but she is doing very well! Her determination and strength is incredible and very inspiring!
