VACAC Superintendent Paul Havermale (Army) was honored to join Darrell Schrage (Navy) and Adam Yates(Marines) in being added to the Veteran Wall of Honor at QU Stadium. Special thanks to Mercantile Bank for sponsoring military appreciation night and all the events that went into making a great evening for the community and all Veterans at the Doggie Paddlers game.

Thank you!

82 years ago, 160,000 Allied Troops, 13,000 Aircraft, and 5,000 Ships landed in Normandy, France. More than 9,000 Allied forces were killed or wounded; their sacrifice opened the way to defeating Hi**er. Today and always, we remember their sacrifice.

Superintendent Havermale at the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers training and conference. A week packed with networking, discussion of best practices and a lot of training. The Illinois contingent of VACs was represented well. A special thanks to NACVSO President Andrew Tangen and the NACVSO Team for a great event and valuable training!

We are advocates for those dealing with mental health crises in Adams County.

And for those struggling, you are not alone.

As we close out Mental Health Awareness Month, be an active advocate. Reach out to someone you think could be struggling. Reach out to someone who isn’t… just in case they are.

We shouldn’t just be aware of mental health in May. Check on your people year round.

We’ve been advised that there are some folks out there that are identifying as homeless veterans in certain areas of the City and they are asking for money. We try to be proactive and stop and talk to these folks as we see them and we have done so numerous times and very recently. If you see anybody that identifies as a veteran, please call our office at 217-515-2822 or suggest that they call our office at the same number and we will do an intake, verify their veteran status and try to point them to resources that may be able to help them or provide assistance if they are eligible.
