SCAM ALERT!!

The Plumas County Environmental Health office has just been notified by a food facility in Portolas of a potential scam involving food inspectors. The restaurant had a call this morning from a male individual asking questions about food safety and operations and stated that he would be at the facility within 10 minutes for an inspection. This scam in the past has involved the 'inspector' then asking for a monetary payment in order for the facility to avoid closure. REMEMBER THAT COUNTY FOOD INSPECTORS WILL NOT ASK FOR MONEY DURING AN INSPECTION.

If you receive a call like this or someone posing as an inspector shows up at your facility, please call the Plumas County Sheriff's Office for assistance. Report the incident to Environmental Health as well.

If in doubt regarding an inspector, remember that local food inspectors all carry Plumas County photo identification cards. You may also call our office at 530-283-6355 for verification.
