On Tuesday, the juniors had the good fortune to meet members of the 343 Firefighter Memorial Ride 2026. These Australian firefighters are traveling cross country to commemorate the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. They're in New York now for the 25th Memorial and made a stop at the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge, where they crossed paths with us at the end of our field trip. Thanks to them for their journey and for the adorable koalas from the Australia Zoo. (They're made from recycled materials!)

Today at MRGS, the juniors enjoyed their first of four field experiences to the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Today's trip offered students their first opportunity to collect benthic macroinvertebrate organisms and to take part in reflective journaling, preparing to write descriptive or narrative essays about the river. As they explored their environment, they jotted down sensory details that caught their attention or inspired a memory of being on (or in) the water. It was a beautiful morning!

Annual Gov School breakfast - With students from 11 high schools, creating a sense of community is an important part of what we do, especially at the beginning of the year.
