The Village of Questa uses on average a little over 200 acre feet of water per year. We have 102.596 acre feet which are owned by the Village of Questa. In 2023 we we worked with the New Mexico State Engineers office on a return flow credit plan. Return flow is the amount of water we are returning to the earth annually. This wiped out close to 2000 acre feet of water that the Village was in arrears to the State Engineer. Last year we used 204.169 acre feet of water and the return flow was 88.259 acre feet. We still over diverted 10 acre feet, but the return flow credit helped us tremendously. In the near future we will have an additional 120 acre feet per year, and we will not be overdiverting. An acre foot is measured as 325,851 gallons of water.
