4th of July Fireworks Reminder from La Paz Unified Fire-Medical District 🎇

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, your La Paz Unified Fire-Medical District wants to keep our community safe! Fireworks can be a fun tradition, but they also bring serious fire risks — especially in our dry desert environment.

✅ What’s Allowed (Permissible Consumer Fireworks):

Ground-based items like fountains, cones, spinners, sparklers (flitter type), smoke devices, and novelty fireworks that stay on the ground.
Use is permitted June 24 through July 6 under Arizona state law (typically 8 AM – 11 PM, with possible extensions on July 4).

❌ What’s Prohibited:
Aerial fireworks (rockets, mortars, fireworks that launch into the air and explode).
Firecrackers and any exploding devices.
All fireworks on public lands (BLM, state trust lands, parks, etc.) — these are often banned year-round, with current fire restrictions in effect.

Quartzsite Town Ordinances:
The use, discharge, or ignition of any fireworks is prohibited on all public property (including streets, sidewalks, parks, parking lots, and rights-of-way).

Permissible consumer fireworks may only be used on private property with the owner's permission.

Always follow state dates and hours — additional local restrictions or fire bans may apply due to high fire danger.

La Paz County Areas (Unincorporated):
Permissible consumer fireworks are allowed on private property with owner permission, following state law dates.
Strictly prohibited on all public lands, rights-of-way, and during any active county or state fire restrictions (which are common in our area due to dry conditions).
Check for current fire danger levels, as temporary bans can override standard allowances.

Important Safety Tips:
Only use fireworks on private property with the owner’s permission.

Keep a garden hose or water source nearby.
Never let children use fireworks without adult supervision.

Dispose of used fireworks in water before throwing them away.

If fire danger is high, additional restrictions may apply — always check current conditions with La Paz County or our district.

In case of emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
Let’s celebrate responsibly and keep Quartzsite and all of La Paz County safe this 4th of July! 🇺🇸

🔥 Important Message from La Paz Unified Fire-Medical District: Burn Safety & Arizona State Regulations 🔥

Summer heat is here in La Paz County, and with it comes increased fire danger. As your local fire and medical professionals, we want to remind everyone about burn prevention, proper first aid for burns, and current state and local fire regulations to keep our families and communities safe.

Burn Prevention Tips:
Keep a 3-foot "kid-free zone" around stoves, grills, and fire pits.

Never leave cooking unattended — scalds and kitchen burns are common.

Use long-handled tools for grills and always attend open flames.

Check for fire restrictions before any outdoor burning.

If a Burn Happens – First Aid Steps:
Remove the person from the heat source.
Cool the burn with cool (not cold) running water for 3-5 minutes.
Cover with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use ice, butter, or ointments.
For severe burns, blisters, or burns on face/hands/feet/genitals — call 9-1-1 immediately.

Key Local Burning Rules:
No open burning is allowed within Quartzsite town limits (check Quartzsite ordinances for any limited exceptions like permitted recreational fires in approved containers).

In unincorporated county areas, you generally need a permit to burn brush or vegetation. Contact La Paz Unified Fire & Medical District or ADEQ for open burn permits and current approval.

Arizona State Fire Regulations (Currently in Effect):
Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are active on State Trust Lands in La Paz County and many BLM lands in our area.

Prohibited activities include:
Building/maintaining campfires (even in developed sites)
Most open burning
Fireworks and incendiary devices
Welding or open-flame torches outdoors
Always check current restrictions through the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM), BLM, or our district before any outdoor activity. Open burning often requires permits and is strictly regulated under Arizona law to prevent wildfires.

Your safety is our priority. Report smoke or fires immediately by calling 9-1-1.
Stay vigilant, stay prepared, and let's protect La Paz County together! 💪
