One flag. One moment. A legacy that endured.

Recovered from the devastation at the Pentagon, this flag became the inspiration for the cover art of ๐˜š. 2001, painted by Marine Corps Artist-in-Residence Kristopher J. Marine Corps History Division is proud to announce its next publication - The Legacy of 9/11: The U.S. Marine Corps and the Terror Attacks of September 2001.

This book includes a breakdown of events from the morning of September 11th, the Corps' immediate institutional response, and the long-term legacy of that response as we approach 25 years since the attacks. Additionally, HD interviewed over 40 Marines across all ranks and locations, who recall exactly where they were that morning, and how the attacks shaped their service.

Legacy of 9/11 will be made available for download on 9/11/2026, with physical copies available at a public book launch that day inside the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Stay tuned for Part II and III of this video series and more details on how to attend the event at the Museum next month!
