As we wrap up International Dark Sky Week, we shift our focus to Volunteer Appreciation Week, highlighting the invaluable contributions of volunteers who play a crucial role in the signature StarWalk program. Considerable preparation is undertaken by both park volunteers and staff to ensure the program's success to create lasting memories for all participants. Prior to presenting at the StarWalk program, volunteers diligently research and hone their skills, demonstrating their dedication to delivering an exceptional experience.

Tips for Viewing the night sky.
*Plan
-check the moon phase; best views of darkness are during the new moon phase.
-check the weather forecast; cloud cover will prevent seeing all the dark sky has to offer & haze caused by humidity doesn't provide a clear view
-find locations that will provide the best viewing

*Gear
-telescope
-binoculars
-download an app on your mobile device

*Other tips
-use red lensed flashlight 🔦, avoid white light
-allow 20-30 minutes after sunset to let your eyes adjust
-be comfortable for viewing such as seating and comfortable clothing

As a dark sky park, stargazing 🌠 is astronomical at Copper Breaks & visitors leave with an unforgettable experience. Telescope programs, night hikes and other programs related to the night sky & astronomy are hosted by park staff and volunteers to provide visitors a memorable experience. The StarWalk telescope 🔭 program is held monthly (weather & cloud cover permitting) April-October. We hope you will join us for this month's StarWalk on Saturday (4/18) at 8:30pm.

Go Dark": Turn off unnecessary outdoor lights to reduce light pollution.

Take the Pledge: Sign the DarkSky pledge to support protecting the night.

Attend Events: Join local or virtual events listed on the official IDSW website.

Use Proper Lighting: Retrofit outdoor lights to be shielded, warm-colored, and downward-facing.
