Check out PCD's new manure spreader rental delivery and pickup program!

With spring in full swing, PCD’s Farm Team has rewired our manure spreader rental program – increasing access to land stewards across the county. From April 1st to September 31st, a PCD farm planner will deliver your manure spreader rental at no extra cost! No need to meet us at our Puyallup office, we will come to you with boots on the ground, offering free technical service alongside delivery of either our 1/2 cubic yard or 2 cubic yard capacity manure spreader.
To support your efforts, and to ensure proper application rates while preventing runoff/nutrient leaching, we require renters to have had a recent soil test and/or allow time for a nutrient management consultation upon spreader delivery. Have questions? Reach out to your area farm planner to learn more.
To reserve either manure spreader, complete an Equipment Request Form on our website: https://zurl.co/z7FPe

May is wildfire month! Get your home or beloved building ready for wildfire BEFORE fire season hits.

Tip #1 - Siding
Siding should stop 12 inches above the ground to prevent flames from hopping to foliage to siding. If you can, select materials like cement board (hardie board, for example) that will resist flame.

Tip #2 - 2 Foot Boundary
Grass, mulch, leaves- those are all flammable! If they're touching your house, they will ignite the structure. Sweep away at least two feet. For wooden furniture, bigger shrubs, and trees you should maintain a boundary of at least 5feet.

We're hosting workshops throughout the month demonstrating different wildfire resiliency practices. At these workshops you'll also have the chance to talk to wildfire experts about home safety, free property risk assessments, or any other wildfire concerns and questions you might have.

We love Club Pierce! Thank you to the volunteers at Club Pierce that took time out of their day to give back through the mulching of native plantings, removal of invasive species, and filling us in on their upcoming summer plans! Work parties like these are vital in building community with like-minded people working towards a greener future.

May is wildfire month! Get your home or beloved building ready for wildfire BEFORE fire season hits.

Tip #1 - Windows
When windows reach high temperatures, they can shatter and let in more embers. Get double-paned windows for that extra layer of security, and consider metal framing pieces.

Tip #2 - Vents
Vents and other openings need a mesh covering to prevent embers from getting into your structure. You need 1/8 inch or smaller gaps for those vents to work properly in a wildfire.

We're hosting workshops throughout the month demonstrating different wildfire resiliency practices. At these workshops you'll also have the chance to talk to wildfire experts about home safety, free property risk assessments, or any other wildfire concerns and questions you might have.

Tip #1 - Clean Your Roof
Moss, pine needles, branches- anything flammable touching your roof will also catch your roof on fire. Take some time to clean it off and trim any nearby branches. Clean your roof off at least once a year, preferably before July 4th.

Tip #2 - Gutters
That goes for gutters, too! If you have debris in your gutters, that can also catch on fire.
