šŸš—šŸ’” Traffic Trivia Tuesdays at Puyallup High School! šŸ’”šŸš—

For the past few weeks, we've been partnering with Puyallup High School for Traffic Trivia Tuesdays to promote safe driving habits and traffic safety awareness among teens.

Each Tuesday, School Resource Sergeant Karuzas will read two traffic safety questions during morning announcements. The first three students to call in with the correct answer to each question win a PPD swag bag along with gift cards to Chick-fil-A and McDonald's!

We believe that any opportunity to connect with our youth in a positive and engaging way is a win. By combining a little friendly competition with important traffic safety reminders, we're helping young drivers build knowledge that can keep them and others safe on the road.

Thank you to all the students who have participated so far—we look forward to continuing the fun and learning each week!

Meet our newest resident at the New Public Safety Facility šŸ£šŸš”

The Puyallup Police Department staff have officially settled into the new building — and apparently so has a very special little guest. One of our not in-service, training motorcycle storage compartments has become home to a cute mama bird and her baby eggs! 🪺

ā€œTraffic Birdieā€ is now officially on baby watch, making sure our feathered friend and her future hatchlings stay safe and sound. We’ll be sharing updates once the eggs hatch, so stay tuned for some adorable new recruits! šŸ’™

Yesterday marked Week #8 of Citizens’ Academy class of 2026!

This week, participants heard informative presentations from detectives within our Investigative Services Unit. Detectives shared insight into the important work they do investigating crimes against persons, including death investigations, assaults, missing persons cases, crimes against children, fraud, and more.

Thank you to our detectives for taking the time to educate and engage with our community while highlighting the dedication and professionalism behind these complex investigations.

We want to take a moment to recognize our Traffic Sergeant, Sergeant Obermiller. Back in April, Sergeant Obermiller received a prestigious award from the United States Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for his work increasing high-visibility emphasis patrols throughout Region 5 that encompasses Pierce County. High visibility emphasis refers to officers being highly visible and deliberately active in enforcing specific traffic laws in high-risk areas.

Sergeant Obermiller was presented with this distinguished award in Washington, D.C., by the NHTSA Administrator. This tremendous recognition highlights Sgt. Obermiller’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to traffic safety. It was truly well deserved and a monumental achievement.

Congratulations, Sgt. Obermiller — we are extremely proud of you and grateful for your continued commitment to keeping our community safe!

Tomorrow is National Missing Children’s Day! This is an important reminder that we have a responsibility to protect every child from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Report suspected abuse or neglect by calling 911 or 1-800-ENDHARM (1-866-363-4276). Please make child safety a priority.

We would like to bring awareness to Misty Copsey today. Misty was just 14 years old when she went missing on September 17, 1992 from downtown Puyallup. We need your help, if you have any information, please contact us at 253-770-3343 or [email protected].
