A huge Thankyou to Earl Rosebrooks and Jeff Bousquet!

FROM THE WINY RADIO NEWSROOM: FROM THE WINY RADIO NEWSROOM: LOCAL BUSINESSMEN DONATE GAS GRILLS TO FIRE AND POLICE: Earl Rosebrooks, owner of Fluid Coating Technology in Putnam and Jeff Bousquet, owner of Steve Bousquet's Appliance & TV in Danielson and Willimantic did something really nice today. “We decided to honor the
Putnam Fire Department and the Putnam Police Department with a couple new gas grills”, said Rosebrooks. “I appreciate what they do for our community and I think everyone realizes how much work they do behind the scenes and this is just a little gift of appreciation.”

Rosebrooks saw a need and took action. “I noticed that the last time I was down here the grill they had wasn’t exactly in the best shape, so I reached out to Jeff Bousquet and we came together to donate two really nice Weber grills and hopefully they will use them for a long time. It’s our way of saying thank you for their service and for what they do for our community.”

Putnam Fire Deparment Chief Bob Campbell is grateful for the donation. “Earl saw our grill in the back of the station and noticed it was kind of leaning like the Tower of Pisa. We had to scrap that one and Earl said he and Jeff wanted to show their appreciation by giving us a couple of grills to feed the guys. Sometimes we cook out after training or during an open house and we always have a cookout for the July 4th fireworks. Sometimes the guys come down and just want to hang out on a weekend and they can throw some burgers and dogs on the grill.”

Putnam Police Chief Chris Ferace says today was a great day. “This is a really nice day for us. What a generous donation from Earl and Jeff. The guys like to cook on the grill sometimes during a shift or during a department lunch. We’ll cook on the grill and it’s always a moment of camaraderie amongst the troops where we can sit and break bread and enjoy some good food.”

Ferace also reflected on the timing of the donation. “Next week is the 25th anniversary of 9/11 when people were so grateful for our first-responders. This is a nice reminder and puts a stamp on our appreciation that they did this for us.”

Putnam Police Seeking Public's Help Identifying Larceny Suspects

The Putnam Police Department is requesting the public's assistance in identifying two individuals allegedly involved in a larceny that occurred during the afternoon of August 16, 2026, at the Antiques Marketplace, located at 109 Main Street, Putnam.

Putnam Police Union Supports The Wall That Heals

This morning, the Putnam Police Union presented Putnam Mayor Barney Seney with a $500 donation in support of The Wall That Heals coming to Putnam. Officer Mark Boulanger, Union President and U.S. Army veteran, and Detective Donna Brown, U.S. Air Force veteran, presented the check to the mayor.

***News Release***

On July 7, 2026, the fifth and final arrest was made stemming from an August 24, 2025, investigation where a male victim reported that multiple individuals had entered his residence armed with handguns and assaulted him. Three adults and a juvenile had previously been arrested earlier this year for their respective roles in this incident.

The on scene investigation back in 2025 determined that the suspects, who were known to the victim, entered the home through an unlocked door, pointed pistols at both a male and female victim inside the residence and physically assaulted the male victim, who sustained minor injuries.

Following the lengthy investigation conducted by the Putnam Police, the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for the accused’s arrest. Yesterday morning at approximately 0600 hours, the accused turned himself in at Police headquarters.

Accused: Gage N. Pietrowski, age 21

Charges: Threatening 1st Degree with a Firearm 53a-61aa(a)(3)
3 counts

Disorderly Conduct 53a-182(a)(1)

Bond: $500,000 Court Set

The accused was processed, held on bond and arraigned later in the day at GA 11 Danielson Superior Court.

Connecticut law enforcement reminds residents to celebrate responsibly while enjoying time with family and friends

(Wethersfield, CT - July 3, 2026) As communities across Connecticut prepare to celebrate America's 250th birthday with parades, concerts, neighborhood cookouts, and fireworks displays, local police departments are encouraging everyone to make safety a priority throughout the extended holiday weekend.

"America's 250th birthday is a time to come together with family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate our nation's history and the freedoms we enjoy," said Chief James Heavy, CPCA President and Greenwich Police Chief. "We want everyone to have a memorable holiday for all the right reasons by making smart decisions that keep themselves and others safe."

With temperatures expected to continue to soar during the holiday weekend, police are reminding residents to take precautions against the extreme heat. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces. Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes, as temperatures inside can rise to deadly levels.

Fireworks are a cherished part of Independence Day celebrations, but they also pose serious risks. Residents are encouraged to attend professionally organized fireworks displays whenever possible. If using legal consumer fireworks, always follow the manufacturer's instructions, keep a bucket of water or garden hose nearby, never allow young children to handle fireworks, and never attempt to relight fireworks that fail to ignite. Fireworks should only be used by sober adults in open areas away from homes, dry grass, and other flammable materials.

Police also remind motorists that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious crashes during holiday weekends. If your celebration includes alcohol or cannabis, plan ahead by designating a sober driver, arranging a rideshare, or using public transportation. Never get behind the wheel while impaired and never let a friend drive impaired. Law enforcement agencies across Connecticut will be conducting additional patrols throughout the weekend to identify and remove impaired drivers from the road.

As more families enjoy bicycles and electric bikes this summer, everyone is reminded to ride responsibly. E-bike riders should obey all traffic laws, wear a properly fitted helmet, ride at safe speeds, and remain alert for pedestrians and vehicles. Parents should ensure young riders understand the rules of the road before heading out to enjoy the holiday.

Finally, police ask residents to help keep emergency resources available for those who need them most. Call 911 only for true emergencies involving immediate threats to life, safety, or property. Non-emergency concerns should be directed to your local police department's non-emergency telephone number.

"We all share the responsibility of making this holiday safe," said President of the CPCA and Greenwich Police Chief James Heavy. "By looking out for one another and making responsible choices, we can ensure everyone enjoys a fun, safe, and memorable celebration of America's 250th birthday."

On June 18, 2026, during the Mayotte Viens Post 13 American Legion Installation of Officers and Awards Program, Officer Kyle Maheu was honored as the 2026 Police Officer of the Year.

Officer Maheu is a 17 year veteran of the Putnam Police Department and currently serves as the School Resource Officer for the Putnam Public School System—a role he has held since the start of the 2022 school year. Each day, he demonstrates exceptional dedication to the school community. He actively engages with students as a positive role model, works closely with faculty and staff to maintain a safe and supportive environment, and provides leadership and oversight to the School Safety Officers.

Beyond his daily responsibilities, Officer Maheu brings extensive specialized training and experience to the department. He is a Certified Crisis Intervention Officer, trained to assist individuals experiencing mental health crises. He is also a certified Police Mountain Bike Operator and previously served as a narcotics investigator and undercover officer with the Connecticut Statewide Narcotics Task Force – East Office.

The Putnam Police Department congratulates Officer Maheu for his outstanding service, professionalism, and commitment to our community.

We also extend our congratulations to the Post 13 Firefighter of the Year, Alden Adams, and EMT of the Year, Katie Webster, for their dedication and contributions to public safety.
