This is Mr. Howell Purvis. He guarded five presidents while in the Secret Service and served in the United States Navy. He has also played “Taps” at hundreds of funerals and memorials. He practices an hour or two every night.

Today, at 91 years old, he showed up again. I wasn’t a brass player…but the breath support required to still play…well, wow. When I called earlier this week to ask him to play, his response was, “Be there at 8:30”?

Howell Purvis is a legend, and I’m grateful to know him.

FINAL UPDATE: The boil water notice for North Street has been lifted.

UPDATE: Water service has been restored. However, North Street from Shelby Speights Drive to Mulberry Street will be under a bowl water notice. When water samples have been returned from Bonner, we will make another update. 

A bore crew hit a water line on North Street. Public Works is actively working on the issue and we will update accordingly.

The boil water notice has been lifted.

Small victories are upon us! After further investigation and education on the lines, inside city limits is off the boil water notice. HOWEVER, Manar Street and Bay Street will continue to boil water until water samples have been returned to the city.

Unfortunately, we are still under a boil water notice for inside city limits. However, samples will be pulled this morning and we will alert the public as soon as the samples come back clear. We understand what an inconvenience this is and we truly appreciate everyone being respectful during this time.

The City of Purvis is on a precautionary boil water notice. There is a water main break near Bay Street. Public Works is working diligently to have the matter repaired as quickly as possible.
