MCL-Loudoun County Marine Corps League Detachment 1205

MCL-Loudoun County Marine Corps League Detachment 1205 "Even after our Marines have retired from keeping our country safe, they are still out there working for us...."

If you are interested in joining the Marine Corps League, please contact [email protected] If you want to rekindle that Esprit de Corps that only Marines can share, we invite you to come to our meetings and see who we are and what we do. The League is made up of Marines, and FMF Navy Corpsmen, who have organized for the purpose of helping both the Corps and the community. Auxillary membership

is also open to members from sister services and friends of Marines. To inquire, e-mail Albert Felicio at [email protected]. Our Detachment goals include providing fellowship among our members as well as providing charitable assistance to our community. One of the Detachment's major community contributions is the annual Toys for Tots drive. Our campaign takes place each year during the months of November and December. It has become a very popular event for the members of our detachment and has a proven record of being a worthwhile program to the children of Loudoun County.

Happy Flag Day.

Battle of Belleau Wood — June 13th Reflection

On June 13, 1918, the Marines continued their brutal fight in the woods of Belleau Wood during World War I. Facing deadly machine-gun fire, artillery, and fierce resistance, the Marines pushed forward with unmatched courage and determination.

It was during this battle that the Marines earned a legendary reputation for toughness and fighting spirit, forever connecting them with the nickname “Devil Dogs” (Teufel Hunden). The sacrifice and bravery shown at Belleau Wood became part of the warrior legacy of the United States Marine Corps.

Belleau Wood was more than a battle — it was a statement.
Marines don’t quit. Marines adapt, overcome, and accomplish the mission.

To those who fought, bled, and never returned:

Semper Fidelis. 🇺🇸
Their courage echoes forever.

June 6th is remembered around the world as D‑Day — the day the Allies crossed the English Channel and began the liberation of Nazi‑occupied Europe.

For Marines and their Corpsmen, June 6th carries an additional meaning. It marks the day — 26 years earlier — when the Marines of the 5th and 6th Regiments, alongside their Army brothers of the 2nd Engineers, began their brutal 20‑day fight against the Germans in the Battle of Belleau Wood.

Nothing beats a First Friday with fellow jarheads — good laughs, good fellowship, and a cold beverage to take the edge off the heat. And with Honor Brewing’s Dress Blues on tap, it just feels right 🤪

Honor Brewing - Loudoun is a HUGE supporter of our military and first responders, and our Detachment is grateful for their continued partnership for our annual Marine Toys for Tots Foundation campaign.

The U.S. Navy is pushing its “Lightning Carrier” strategy even further as USS Iwo Jima undergoes major upgrades to support sustained F-35B Lightning II operations. With a new $17.45 million contract extension, the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship will receive reinforced flight deck sections, upgraded cooling systems, improved power distribution, and advanced mission-data infrastructure designed specifically for high-tempo fifth-generation warfare.

The modernization reflects how amphibious assault ships are evolving from traditional Marine deployment platforms into compact sea-based strike carriers capable of launching large numbers of F-35Bs in contested environments. As drone warfare, long-range missiles, and distributed maritime operations reshape naval doctrine, ships like USS Iwo Jima are becoming critical force multipliers alongside supercarriers.

The upgrades also highlight the growing importance of expeditionary aviation and rapid-response sea control missions, giving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps greater flexibility in future Indo-Pacific and global conflict scenarios.

It was an honor for our Detachment to support the Memorial Day ceremony in the The Town of Lovettsville. Standing alongside a community that remembers its fallen with such sincerity is a powerful reminder of the cost of freedom - and of the heroes whose sacrifice we will never forget.

This Memorial Day, we honor the heroes who gave their lives for our nation—and the families who carry their memory every day.

May we never forget the cost of our freedom.
We remember. We honor. We carry their legacy forward.
