Good Sunday morning, McClain County. It was certainly a strange May by Oklahoma standards. For the entire month, we only posted one time about a severe weather threat for McClain County. This morning, however, it isn't severe weather that we want to draw your attention to, but rather heart. It's going to be quite warm today and tomorrow, with high temperatures likely getting close to 100 degrees in central Oklahoma. Humidity values are decently high as well, so heat index values will climb well above 100. Being that we haven't seen a lot of heat thus far this late spring/early summer season, the effects of heat on human and animal health can sometimes take folks by surprise. Just keep in mind that if you have a lot of outdoor activities planned today or tomorrow - whether work or play - make sure to take frequent breaks in the shade and hydrate well. In a few weeks, this kind of heat will probably be pretty normal for us in central OK, but the early season nature of the heat demands a little extra caution today and tomorrow.

Good Friday afternoon, McClain County. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of Oklahoma until 10 pm on Friday, May 8th, 2026. Just before 3 pm, thunderstorms were developing across northern and northwestern Oklahoma, generally along a line from Ponca City to Cheyenne. With time, storms may become more numerous, moving to the east/southeast into central Oklahoma. The most likely time for storms to impact McClain County will be between 6 pm and 9 pm this evening. The strongest storms will be capable of damaging straight-line wind gusts and isolated damaging hail. The tornado threat looks to be very low with this activity. If you have outdoor plans for the remainder of the evening, ensure that you have a way to receive weather notifications and have a plan for sheltering from severe weather if a storm approaches your location.

Good Monday morning, McClain County. It's pretty incredible that we went four straight days having severe weather chances across Oklahoma, and saw relatively minor to absolutlely no impacts to McClain County - or really most locations in central Oklahoma. The good news this week is that our severe weather chances take a much-needed break. Instead, we are looking at a warm start to the week, following by a big cooldown for the middle and later part of the week. High temperatures for much of the upcoming week look to be in the 60s, with cloudy and rainy conditions likely on Thursday and Friday. Storm chances look low overall, so more of a nice, slow soaking rain might be in the cards for later this week. Early this week would probably be a good time to fertilize or work in the garden. Anyway, enjoy the quiet stretch of weather to end April and begin May. After all, it is doubtful that we are done with severe weather yet this spring.

Good Sunday evening, McClain County. The National Weather Service has recently added McClain County to an existing Tornado Watch over southwestern and south-central Oklahoma, in effect until 11 pm on Sunday, April 26th. As of 6:15, a severe thunderstorm was located just east of Lawton, generally moving in the direction of western McClain County. This storm is in an environment favorable for producing large, damaging hail. On its current track, it could impact western portions of the county - along with much of Grady County - within the next hour.

Good Sunday morning, McClain County. We are looking at another day with a low-confidence severe weather risk for central Oklahoma. As we've seen the last several days, the absolute chances of any one location seeing a severe thunderstorm is pretty low with this kind of setup, but there will be a chance for highly localized impacts if a storm can develop and more across our area, especially during the mid evening hours. A dryline looks to again makes its way toward central Oklahoma this afternoon, with a chance of isolated development as early as the late afternoon hours. If a storm can form (no guarantees) and if it can sustain itself into the evening hours, conditions will become more favorable for severe weather, including tornadoes. Again, not a day to change any plans, but a good day to stay plugged in to the forecast throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

The nice news is that today ends this multi-day stretch of severe weather chances, and it looks like we will have a stretch of no severe weather chances for the foreseeable future. A storm system may move into the Southern Plains toward the end of next week, but this looks more like a cool, rainy type of pattern at this time.

***UPDATE*** As of 9:15 pm on Saturday, April 25th, the Tornado Watch has been cancelled early for McClain County, as all of the severe threat has moved south and east away from this part of the state.

Good Saturday afternoon, McClain County. A Tornado Watch has been issued for much of central, southern, and southeastern Oklahoma until 11 pm on Saturday, April 25th. Ensure that you have a way to receive warning notifications this evening, and a plan for sheltering if a storm approaches your location.

Good Saturday morning, McClain County. A serious severe weather threat looks to potentially materialize very close to central Oklahoma later this afternoon and evening, with localized high-impact weather possible. A warm front is forecast to lift north into southern and central Oklahoma from north Texas through the early afternoon hours. This boundary will serve as the focal point for organized severe thunderstorm development and may serve as a localized corridor of an enhanced tornado and large hail threat during the early evening hours. As always, not everyone will see a storm, and there is still some uncertainty on the location of this boundary and the timing of storm development, but with a very busy Saturday across much of central Oklahoma, it will be very important to stay weather aware through the afternoon and evening hours. Importantly, storms may initially form very close to McClain County as early as 3-5 pm, so there will not be a long of a ramp-up time as what we are typically used to seeing with storms forming over far western Oklahoma and moving our way. This means that, as storms form, it will be important to have a plan in place to quickly seek shelter, especially if you are going to be away from home or at an outdoor event.
