🚧 Progress in the Works! 🚧

The City of Punta Gorda Public Works Right-of-Way Crew is making great progress on the sidewalk replacement project along W. Retta Esplanade, from Shreve Street to the pedestrian walkway leading to Fishermen’s Village.

Crews are pouring concrete today, and work is expected to be completed by the end of the day, weather permitting. These improvements will enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of our waterfront corridor.

As the rainy season approaches, homeowners along our canal systems may notice depressions developing near their seawalls. This is a common occurrence and is typically caused by erosion or settlement behind the seawall.

The Public Works Canal Maintenance Division is here to help. Our Canal Maintenance Crew can provide homeowners with the appropriate fill material needed to properly address seawall depressions. To help ensure the long-term stability of your seawall, please do not use topsoil, concrete, rocks, or other unsuitable materials, as they are not recommended and may lead to additional problems.

Notice of Closure - Sidewalk Replacement Project Along Shreve Street to Fishermen’s Village

Beginning June 4, 2026 The City of Punta Gorda Public Works Department's Right-of-Way Division will begin a sidewalk replacement project along the pedestrian corridor from Shreve Street to Fishermen’s Village.

During construction, portions of the sidewalk will be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of pedestrians and work crews. Pedestrians are encouraged to use the alternate sidewalk route through Alice Park and Pittman Park while work is underway.
Please use caution when traveling through the area and follow all posted signs and detours.

This project is weather permitting and will continue until all repairs have been completed.

The city appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as we work to improve pedestrian infrastructure and enhance safety for residents and visitors.

Herald Court Parking Garage Elevator Temporarily Out of Service for Maintenance Improvements

Punta Gorda, FL – June 2, 2026 - The City of Punta Gorda Public Works Facilities Department announces that the elevator located at the Herald Court Parking Garage, 117 Herald Court, within the Herald Court Centre, will be temporarily out of service beginning June 2, 2026.

During this closure, Facilities Maintenance crews will be replacing the elevator flooring as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve City facilities. The work is expected to be completed promptly, with the elevator anticipated to reopen for public use by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The city appreciates the public's patience and understanding while these improvements are being made. Visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly and utilize stair access during the temporary closure.

🚫🌱 Fertilizer Restriction Reminder 🌱🚫

Residents are reminded that fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorus cannot be applied to lawns within the City of Punta Gorda between June 1 and September 30.

As a result, the City will not accept fertilizer requests for cul-de-sac maintenance or create work orders during this restriction period. Requests received during the ban will not be processed.

If you are interested in fertilizer application services, please contact us beginning October 1, when the seasonal restriction is lifted.

These restrictions help protect our waterways by reducing nutrient runoff during Florida's rainy season and support a healthier environment for our community.

Subject: Notice of Closure - Laishley Marina Boaters Parking Lot Replacement

Effective Tuesday, June 9, 2026, access to the Laishley Marina access to parking and the boat ramp will be temporarily closed for repaving. There will be no access to the driveway or parking access located at West Retta Esplanade.

We anticipate reopening on Friday morning June 12, 2026, this improvement project is weather permitting, and the closure will remain in effect until paving operations are completed. RESTROOMS NOW OPEN - We appreciated the public's patience and understanding as our Utilities Department crew work to resolve the water main break which resulted in closing the restrooms at Gilchrist Park.

Temporary Restroom Closure at Gilchrist Park

Due to a water main break at the intersection of Shreve Street and West Retta Esplanade, water pressure in the area has been reduced to allow the City's Utilities Department to safely complete repairs.

Effective immediately, the restrooms at Gilchrist Park are closed and will remain unavailable until repairs are completed and normal water service is restored.

We appreciate the public's patience and understanding as our crews work to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.

Public Works employees celebrated National Public Works Week with a special once-a-year Director and Spouse sponsored lunch! Crews from across the City came together during their lunch break to enjoy great food, share laughs, and strengthen the teamwork that keeps our community running every day. While Public Works teams work hard year round to get the job done, this event was a great opportunity to slow down for a moment, connect as coworkers, and celebrate the dedication, pride, and commitment they bring to serving the residents of the City of Punta Gorda.
