🗑️ WHO COLLECTS MY TRASH? CITY of Punta Gorda Sanitation OR COUNTY?

We receive several questions regarding who provides trash and recycling service in and around the City of Punta Gorda. The easiest way to tell is to look at the color of your trash cart.

🤎 LIGHT BROWN CART WITH A BLACK LID
Your trash service is provided by the City of Punta Gorda Sanitation Department.

🟢 SOLID GREEN TRASH CART
Your trash service is provided by Charlotte County Waste Management.

♻️ GREEN CART WITH A YELLOW LID
This is a recycling cart, collected by Charlotte County Waste Management who has an contract with the City of Punta Gorda.

One common source of confusion is your mailing address or ZIP code. Some properties may have a Punta Gorda/33950 mailing address but are actually located outside the City limits and receive sanitation service through Charlotte County.

🇺🇸 LABOR DAY HOLIDAY CLOSURE & COLLECTION NOTICE 🇺🇸

In observance of Labor Day, City of Punta Gorda government offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026.

♻️ Good news! There will be NO CHANGE to collection services.

Residents can expect their regularly scheduled:
🗑️ Trash collection
♻️ Recycling collection
🌿 Yard waste collection

Commercial customers will also experience NO CHANGE in trash collection service.

City offices will reopen during normal business hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Notice of Public Education Information Meeting

The City of Punta Gorda is inviting residents and members of the public to learn more about proposed drainage and stormwater improvements planned for the community.

The meeting will cover roadway swale regrading, culvert and storm pipe improvements, a new stormwater management system, and efforts to improve local water quality and stormwater management.

Date: September 16, 2026
Time: 5:30 PM
Location: 120 Laishley Ct., Punta Gorda

Residents are encouraged to attend, learn more about the proposed project, and hear how these improvements are intended to enhance drainage and water quality in the area.

Laishley Marina Reopened Following Temporary Repairs

The City has completed the temporary repairs to the Laishley marina authorized under our Temporary Use Agreement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). With this work complete, the marina has reopened and is operating at a reduced capacity and within a temporary footprint.

These temporary repairs will remain in place until permanent reconstruction of the Laishley marina begins.

In the meantime, the City is working through the permitting process with FDEP and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the permanent reconstruction. Once the necessary permits and approvals are in place, the City will be able to move forward with the next phase of the project.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue working toward the full restoration of the marina. We’ll share additional updates as the permanent reconstruction project moves forward.
