“Quick! What’s his blood type?”

O-Positive.

Because anyone who thinks people always dispose of cigarette butts correctly has to be an optimist. 🚬🔥🤣

No, but seriously… we’re asking nicely. Please don’t flick ci******es out the window. Wildfires aren’t nearly as funny as this joke.

It’s hurricane season. The annual Florida tradition of staring at spaghetti models and buying snacks we don't normally eat. 🌀🌴

Swipe through for some laughs, hurricane safety tips, and reminders about things we'd prefer not to meet you over.

Make a plan. Build a kit. Sign up for Alert Charlotte. Know your evacuation zone. And remember: if you evacuate, you probably don't need to drive to Tennessee.

Need help getting started? Check out our Disaster Guide at www.charlottecountyfl.gov/disasterguide

If you need us, we'll be there. But we'd much rather meet you at a community event than during an emergency.

Stay informed and stay prepared this hurricane season. And please do not make us come see you.

When you see a fire engine, rescue or truck rolling down the road, there’s a dedicated team behind the scenes making sure it gets there safely.

Our Emergency Vehicle Maintenance (EVM) team was recently recognized for their exceptional dedication, technical expertise, and commitment to keeping our fleet mission ready. From preventive maintenance and major repairs to preparing new apparatus for service, they work tirelessly to keep our crews on the road and ready to respond.

As one of our team members often says, “It’s up to us to keep them on the road.”

And they do exactly that.

Their work may happen behind the bay doors, but its impact is felt on every emergency response. By keeping our apparatus safe, reliable, and ready to serve, they help keep our team, and community safer every day.

Thank you, EVM team, for everything you do. 🔧🚒🚑

At 4:18 p.m., Charlotte County Fire & EMS responded to Lavilla Road and Scott Street for a hazardous materials incident after a gas main was struck.

Crews arrived on scene alongside TECO, which confirmed a 4-inch gas main had been damaged.

Due to significant mud and water around the break, crews were unable to safely access the damaged section of pipe. TECO crews excavated the area and successfully clamped the gas line away from the break, stopping the leak and securing the scene.

There were no injuries reported.

Responding units: Engine 6, Engine 11, Rescue 6, Rescue 12, Squad 12, Battalion 1, and County 2.

Letters of intent were signed. Futures were sealed. Our first Signing Day Ceremony is complete. 🚑🔥

Just like a student-athlete signing to play at the next level, Charlotte Technical College students signed their letters of intent this week as they take the next step toward careers in fire & EMS and serving the same community that helped raise them.

We were proud to partner with Charlotte Technical College and Charlotte County Public Schools for our very first Signing Day Ceremony, recognizing students pursuing careers in public safety and celebrating the hard work and dedication it took to get here.

Through this partnership, students who complete the necessary certifications and hiring requirements will have the opportunity to interview with Charlotte County Fire & EMS.

The next generation starts now.

This morning, Lieutenant Mike Brucci, Lieutenant Kelly Lechleidner, Lieutenant Jefferson Mendel, and Firemedic River Silva were recognized as Employees of the Year after being selected by fellow Charlotte County employees from among all 2025 Employee of the Month recipients. Each year, Board of County Commissioners employees vote to determine the Employee of the Year, making this recognition especially meaningful as it comes directly from their peers across the organization.

The group was previously honored as Employees of the Month for November following their actions during the Barre Drive fire in May. Crews responded to the residential structure fire late at night and arrived to find flames coming through the roof, heavy fire throughout the living room, and reports of people trapped inside. Firefighters worked under extreme conditions to rescue victims, provide emergency medical care, and battle the fire during a complex incident.

Their professionalism, courage, and commitment to serving the community during one of the department’s most complex incidents also earned them departmental medals.
